Strange error, NS actually has an opening demo when you run it from steam which you see if you have a DIVX codec installed, otherwise it should just continue onto the next screen without an error.
Id recommend downloading a DIVX codec and seeing if it fixses your problem, alternativly you could try a reinstall of NS or Steam, they seem to be the normal way to fix things round here.
