I try to play half life from steam, and it asks me to confirm i have the game. It asks me to enter the Cd key and i do and everything seems to be working fine and then it tells me my CD key is invalid im positive its entered in right and ive tried it multiple times.. Please help me someone??\

Do i have to actually have half life installed on my computer before i can use it in steam??? and are there any other programs i have to have installed in order to register to play half life.

1st- your key has to be unique to you. You cannot "borrow" someone elses, at least not in Steam.

You do need HL installed, and then I believe you have to upgrade by d-loading HL 1.1.1.0 (80 mb). Then d-load Steam (723 mb for all the games) and then nsp d-loads. Hope you have cable/dsl

Make sure when you register to Steam you use a valid e-mail address, though it does give you an option to change your e-mail contact.

Whatever you do, do not create a second account in Steam using the same cd key!! Only one e-mail address can be registered (cd key) to Steam.

Like Thansal said if you have specific Steam issues visit

you don't need half-life installed you can have it installed and steam will convert your half-life install into a cache file that it uses...
