the way i do it, when im going to make a handle, i take into account the rounding in the spline first, manipulate the vertex for the roundness and then duplicate it, mirror it to the left and then join em, all poly by poly.
i think for 3d studio max, i think you extrude a spline and chamfer the edges, i dunno. I rarely extrude a spline to create the left and right faces of a gun, because that will come out very flat and blocky with no roundness

I want to chamfer the spline, but of course the chamfers will never line up. Its being annoying. And i haven't assigned smoothing groups yet either.
