yeh when you're extruding a spline into a handle, take into account that is has to be chamfered at the edges to make it round

like i said before the handle and few parts of the gun needs rounding
  • TheUdderOneTheUdderOne Join Date: 2004-05-04 Member: 28471Members
yeah i'm having trouble with the whole "rounding" issue.

I want to chamfer the spline, but of course the chamfers will never line up. Its being annoying. And i haven't assigned smoothing groups yet either.

sorry, cant help you with 3d studio max, i use milkshape3d :\
the way we do it in milkshape, its all poly by poly method
  • TheUdderOneTheUdderOne Join Date: 2004-05-04 Member: 28471Members
Yeah i know. Don't get me wrong, milkshape is fun an all, but if i wanna create summat quick, 3ds max is the way to go.

I have used the whole poly by poly method, so don't think i cant!

Poly by poly is the way to go. Then you get some hardcore low-poly models, computers waste polies, people shouldn't!

the way i do it, when im going to make a handle, i take into account the rounding in the spline first, manipulate the vertex for the roundness and then duplicate it, mirror it to the left and then join em, all poly by poly.

i think for 3d studio max, i think you extrude a spline and chamfer the edges, i dunno. I rarely extrude a spline to create the left and right faces of a gun, because that will come out very flat and blocky with no roundness
