The Hookshot From The Zelda Games

The description in the last three games describes it as a springy, extendable, sticky wonder of ancient technology, (BOING!) and that is no lie.
I maintain that the hookshot is not only the best item in the Zelda series, it is the best item of any type in any game whatsoever. There is nothing on earth that could not benefit from having it in some compatible form.
Oh, and while I'm on the topic of this most useful tool, I'd like to share with you a dream I have.
In the next Zelda, I want them to bring back Dark Link. But this time he will not be difficult because he cheats, or because he cannot possibly be hit under normal circumstances.
He will be difficult because he uses the hookshot.
I would like to see a fight where you must play a dangerous back-and-forth with your doppleganger, dodging his hookshot in order to return fire with your own, stunning him, and vaulting to his position, so that you can land your blows, and then jump back out to do it again.
That would be the BEST. DUEL. EVAR.

the grappling hook also stuns certain enemies.
cool idea, man, but i think the best item ever = not hookshot.

What? He never cheated, he just did whatever you did. It wasn't a hard battle.

j00 f3w3lz!
The grappling hook is precisely the same as the hookshot in every way, except that Samus' glows. Saying that the grappling hook is better than the hookshot is like saying my piece of paper is better than yours because mine has a little doodle drawn in the corner. It isn't. It's functionally the same thing. The hookshot stuns enemies too, just like the grappling hook. Not only that, but it pulls little ones over to you so you can pwn up.
Hive: Tell me more about this bat/magnet thing, and I'll tell you why the hookshot is better. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I don't know, maybe you don't call jumping on top of your sword when you stab at him cheating. I do.
Just to be clear, I was talking about Ocarina of Time, not Adventure of Link. I never got that far in Adventure of Link. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I call it having more skill then j00. Besides, a quick Button Mash threw him off the blade.
You cannot defeat bat magnet. The magnet draws any useful items towards you, and the bat can grab dragons and just fly off with em, meaning they cannot kill you anymore. Plus the mere fact that you can hold a bat holding a magnet proves you have more skill than any random dude with a grappling hook. I mean even the pitfall dude had a grappling hook.
I dunno. That never worked for me. Pretty much nothing did. When I finally did beat him, it was by 100% pure luck, just getting in close, hacking, slashing, and praying.
In any case, I still say it was cheating. The whole point of the Dark Link is that you're fighting yourself. Not yourself++. He shouldn't be able to do anything you can't, he should just have really boss timing and whatnot, being a computer and all.

Hmm...
It sounds to me as though the bat/magnet is much like the hookshot in a different form. Can it take you to places, if used properly?
You can cheat him to death too, get close, Din's Fire. Or whack him in the face a couple times with the Megaton Hammer.

No, sadly the bat cannot carry you around, although the magnet is very handy in getting the bridge, and the bridge can take you friggin anywheres.
And now that you mention it, the hookshot does sound suspiciously like the bat/magnet fused together. So I guess Adventure was the last game to have an origional concept.
They were good, but they took up both item slots and it was pricy.
I tried the Megaton Hammer, and ALMOST got it to work.
I knew of the Din's Fire thing, and used it my second time through the game.
My whole point though is that you shouldn't have to choose between cheating him to death, or hacking and praying. It's a fight against your doppleganger. It should be the ultimate test of dueling skill. They did it all wrong in OoT.
Boy: impossible. No mere weapon can best the hookshot, as the hookshot is both a weapon and a highly versatile tool. No one thing effectively combines more functions. The hookshot is what the Swiss Army knife wants to be when it grows up.
What can this glove do?

When you have it on you can throw small balls that bacomes small robotdogs that attacks the enemies.
</bleh>
That made it wasy as pie.
And I always thought Dark Link was the coolest sub boss in the game.
I'd have to say that the entire dark link fight featured some of the best and coolest gameplay mechanics ever.
But the hookshot, in itself is not a weapon. Correct me if Im wrong here, but I dont think its ever hurt anything. Samus's beam, however, is important for killing the maridia boss in Super Metroid (that is, if you dont want a long drawn out battle).
Again, space jump/screw attack easily bests the hookshot/grapple beam. Its a quick(-ish) mode of transportation, makes you somewhat invincible, destroys most enemies, and GLOWS!
edit: you know whats better than the hookshot? the LONGshot!
/me dodges flying vegetables
The hookshot grabs onto an object, usually a big wooden stick coming out of a wall...like this.....

The hookshot itself looks something like this.....

This particular one is from Ocarina Of Time.
It's very cool. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I was half expecting you to go "Heres one i made earlier"
But yah, the Hookshot is "pwnage in a visible form"
And Copland owns Glitch. But did either of them pick up dragons? Oh no.
Bat+magnet still are winnar.
