Earning Score Points

How do you earn score points? I know you can earn them through kills, and commanding, or building things as an alien... but sometimes my kills don't add up to my score.... I'm talking about NS only... not CO.

    This deserves a question.

Why the hell are you looking at your score in NS? I know I never do it. Or rather, never did when I actually played.

    These are the one's I know :

    Alien :

    Kill a marine - 1 point
    Build OC,DC,MC or SC - 2 points
Build res tower - 3 points
    Build a hive - 8 points
    Kill a marine structure - 3 points
Kill marine CC - 5 points

    Marines :

Kill an alien - 1 point
Kill alien res tower - 3 points
    Kill a hive - 8 points

I dont command but I think the comm gets 2 points for each structure built.

Your score doesn't matter, it's your kills that do.

ya, cause we all know gorges always get high kill ratings...

I think building is overwheiged for scoring in the pubs though, any half decent gorge can easily lead the team.

Overall, just don't worry about any of your score stats.

I look at the score so I know who's doing what and how they're doing. You can't run around with guys who aren't listening and running around by themselves getting killed.

    Be nice.

I do everything the commander asks. Build all his stuff, move to all his waypoints. I cover my teammates. I'm one of those guys in Counter-strike that rescues all the hostages and plants/defuses all the bombs. Be nice.

And I check the score... and don't give me that BS about never checking your score... you know you do.

What if two or more marines kill a RT or hive? How does the computer know?

Actually, the scoreboard didn't display scores until 2.0 or 2.01, around the time I stopped playing NS.

So I don't look at scores.

Well, whichever marine gets that last hit in gets the points.

The exact values are listed in the new manual:

QUOTE

THE NATURAL SELECTION SCORING SYSTEM

that is so untrue. if you frag anything it will give you 1 point.

tbh i cant understand people that watch their score, or anyone elses for that matter. unless i'm one of the team's permagorges and we are having a competition of who builds the most =P

Its nice to know how you get your score, but since I mostly don't care about score....

Its a team game ffs.. (or its supposed to be)

I admit its nice to be able to see how many kills/deaths you have, but i dont see the need for the points system. Id rather see it replaced with more relevent information such as: player resource levels; no. rts built/lost; no. enemy buildings destroyed; webs/max webs used. Information like that would actually be useful.

I am not sure of that, but I think (from personal observation)...

It seem like everything I kill a skulk in a hive or in marine start I get 2 points... does that hold true, or just my mind playing me?

At the end of the day, if your team won, then huzzah!

I actually only watch the scoreboard to know who's in what form (HA/comm/alien evolution/dead/reinf)
  • StueStue Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 6017Members
Its obvious what the score system is good for.

Not only killing players of the other team is helping the team. Placing and destroying structures is as well. And killing harder opponents surely is worth more that easier ones.

Gorges usually spend their life building up infrastructure of the alien team, which is probably the most important aspect of helping the team. So does the marine commander. Of course they deserve staying at the top of the scores.
