ok jk I'm not authorized to recruit anyone to be an admin or anything I was just joking around with that, but I have a question , how are admins made? are they elected by the people? appointed by some NS higharchy? or are they just randomly chosen?

My guess: either they've been involved with the game a long time, possibly personal friends of Flayra, or they've proven themselves as fair, honest, and (most of the time) sane people with their posts of these boards. Maybe chosen by Constellation members?

Am I right, am I right?

[edit] Oh yeah, what does "Step Into The Orange" refer to? [/edit]

admins names are in orange when you look at the bottem of the page and it says who all is on in that certain area, the admin names are in orange.

Forum admins are hired from the Forum and IRC communities from people why have been observed to be fair, intellegent, and have a good sense for admin issues. They also, (for evident reasons) must have a certain amount of time in the community, and they must be active readers of the forums. Posting is of less importance, but still needed.

I believe from my personal observations they would never consider you in a million years, avenger. So back off.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it was referring to the color scheme of an and old, old version of our forums. I recall seeing a screenshot, possibly even a mirrored equivalent to Google's cache feature, but haven't found it since. Would Nemesis Zero or any other members who've been here that long be able to tell us what it was like?

The boards used to have an orange-and-black color scheme fitting the old flash-setup of NS.org, which I still consider the sexiest piece of webdesign ever. Overmind.orgs forums used to have the same, but it seems Charlie removed them recently, which is a pity since I do now only have my memory to support my claim of being the second NS fan there ever was

As for the promotion of admins, they are choosen by the community lead (e.g.: yours sincerely) or Flayra out of the mods whenever the need for a new one arrives.
How are mods being choosen, then? Whenever we realize that the tides of forum posts threaten to drown us or when one of us leaves our hearths, we throw suggestions for new ones around in the private moderatiors forum (no group restrictions there - you don't have to be Constie, PT, or Guide), and at the end, the community lead or Flayra gets to pick them. The 'lucky' individual then gets a PM asking him or her whether s/he is interested, and if s/he is, well, you guessed it.
On that note, please don't offer yourself as mod. I appreciate the thought, but we're invite-only and will remain so.

"Flayra Visability" means that the person is to be viewed *as* flayra when flayra is absent.

this person would also have root access to the forums, and could possibly *take over* the forums from the person in charge. i'm sure that flayra trusts nem0 enough to give him this amount of access...

i would also suspect that there is a developers forum, which nem0 can see (even if he's not suposed to interact), and a "junk" section that flayra might be using to host temporary files for personal transfer and such.

Actually, sorry, Del, but no. 'Flayra visibility' means that the user of that group has access to flat out all parts of the boards, but I assume it won't be granted to anyone except Charlie. As for myself, I have no access to the dev forum and don't need it - if a flamewar erupted in there, I couldn't suspend the offender, anyway I'm running the day-to-day business of the community, and have all the access I need for that, but none beyond.

• ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
admins have more power

mods have the powers of ban, lock, suspend, move, edit stuff like thaT (I am guessing thats it)

Admins have all of those plus actual controll over the forum (changing forum sections, updating the boards, fixing critical errors)

again, this is just general guesses

No, mods can't ban people. They can ask admins to do so, though.

Nope, Flayra can see everything. What you are referring to is MonsEs group (Lowvis), which basically cuts all the parts Mons doesn't go into for fear of exploding in a cloud of expletives out.

ook, what about temp suspensions? Or are those handled by the so called 'discusions' in the mod forum?

I still hold with my beliefe that the admins (especialy Nem0) are actualy just random number generators that are ussed to pick out 'witty' lines and decide who to ban next.

And I am rather sure that any name that contains "Thansal" in it just got some extra weight added when picking the next Ban.

razor: Look at join dates and average posts per day, its actualy not that much

example:
Nem0 nearly 2.5 years (and that is just the most recent incarnations of the forums I believe)
average posts per day:
9.1

do the math.
Obviously enugh there are alot of days that he makes 0 posts (holdiays and what not and many days where he spends a decent chunk of time here, thus you get some one with 7776 posts.
