<div class="IPBDescription">This is it...hey, where'd you guys go?</div> I don't com often. Usually, it's when noone else will jump into the chair. I just don't like taking the flak for a loss.
I com'd a game yesterday, though. Map was ns_origin on a 9v9 server, so a marine advantage (good for an infrequent com like me). It went well until we had both hives and double.
There's usually one or two marines who just rambo. However, once we had both hives and had cleared double (which was lamed to hell), the whole team was just naffing around. Crawling through vents, chasing shiny objects, leaping into lava - the sort of thing rambos do, generally. And, in the process, losing the weaponry I gave them.
We had had everything but the final hive for a few minutes. Despite constant requests, cajoling and at one point caps lettering, they just faffed about. I went to give one person who went the right way a medpack (after he fell from the ladder at double), when the alien team (who had quietly massed outside our base) attacked en masse. One of them must have been saving all game, because he was an onos; the rest were skulks. They went straight for the obs, and tore it down in a few secs. The rest followed soon after.
Although we reloc'd to double, the damage was done. We lost.
The marines weren't useless. They could aim, and managed to beat back aliens who used a good degree of organisation. However, they just didn't grasp the importance of keeping up the pressure. We were winning because the aliens were responding, not reacting; however, when they didn't push for the final hive at Vent (except through the sodding vents in ones and twos, which were guarded by lame and happy skulks), they let the aliens take the initiative, and they pounded us.
<b>How do you keep marines focused on the goal? What measures can you do to make them think, "I have an HMG, I will use it to help push the aliens into their hive" rather than, "I have an HMG. Let's go attack those 9 OCs head on"?</b>

I commanded them to attack subspace. Suddenly our base is under attack at mother i give them pg and say 5xPG resukt: one goes to mother and dies. puff goes our hive. well i managed to siege subspace. but soon after aliens attacked mess hall and once again noone went. result: we lost quite soon
I think the only way to get your team really work is to play clan match (the only place real eh? )
OR make some reputation so you have some punc with your words <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Thats the only way <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Oh and... i (as comm) had most killes... and i didnt siege... cuz idiots didnt go to WP.
Basically get a mic first off. Even though you dont comm often its almost a necessity if your gonna comm to have a mic. Then when they arent doin what you want threaten to recycle everything if they dont obey. When they laugh and think your bluffing recycle the whole base.
It took me a while but back in 2.0 just before the beta's came out I had done that enough times that people pretty much always listend to me on the server i play on regularly. Kinda sucks that I pretty much had to blackmail my own team into winning, but it was pretty cool have 7 times as many recycles as anyone else on the server!
Short of that the only thing Ive ever seen work is having a reputation as a great commander. A regular on the sever I played on had such a reputation and he almost always had everyone doing what he wanted without people begging for shotguns.
Anyways those are the most common ways Ive seen people keep the team interested in the game.

let them rampage happily in, when there in, confess your lie. there in anywayz.. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
ok.. i have not commed in months. does it show? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Theres your problem. Apparently you don't have voice comm, or choose not to use it. I've always said don't bother comming without a mic, although possible, its not nearly as fun nor effective without one. Some people are literally TOO STUPID, to look at the chat. If you had been ruling with an iron comm fist the entire game with your mic, your marines most likely would have known your plan and have been with it 100%.
Really, just beacon, and direct them all.
Everytime I beacon, that is one less HMG / HA you will get.
If I beacon X times, your Infantry Portals and Phase Gates are recycled."
If they start to eject you, recycle every node and start spamming GLs (if you have them) or medpacks.
Best thing is to simply not let your blood-preasure go up. Perhaps drop a big pile of guns, give yourself a jp/gl, and go cause some damage yourself <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> It's not worth letting it get to you.

That will get you banned (deservedly) on most well-admined servers.
its still possible, though very hard, the hitbox for guard self is liek a pixel wide.
I tried beacons, but all I got was bitching (especially from the GLer in the vent). I tried insulting them, but they ignored me. I rewarded them, but all I got was contempt.
The only thing left is the mic, as far as I can tell. I'm trying to get the sodding thing working. If I com again (God forbid) I'll let you know how verbal slapping effected things, too.
All I can say is that I respect those coms who can get people to do what is needed. Maybe that's just something that can't be picked up...
Find a better server.
I never experience this sort of thing on my favourite servers.
No seriously. Just **** at them via mike, and deny them anything that doesn't involve doing what you want.
Works like a charm, except if a real admin is on then ...
after some time they know your the man and do what you said.
And no you can`t pick it up you have to earn it.
I played in 2.0 in auria.pelikaista allways and in sumthing like after 3months i was insisted to take the chair and i had this one guy allways take me all res while other harrased aliens. i think hi`s name was T30...
Nowdays i play in surftown where i have also started to get some respect althou it`s quite noobish place.
RESPECT is the only real thing if you want to have good team.
Lying never work`s after two times
I will ban you will get YOU banned
bribing ppl just dont work...
