Im not sure if this has been suggested but here i go... Observatories have a pikcup range right? Say if they got a range for Mt once it was researched,it would start off small but increase or a new upgrade called MT Range costing 50 energy points from your observatory could come into place, which would increase your motiont racking range uptoa certain extent (e.g not being able to work inside hive rooms)
Don't forget of course that the marine cannot see your motion tracking bubble if you stay behind him. Skulks should never really attack marines head on anyways.
Besides, skulks have their own kind of motion-tracking in parasites. It's easy enough to parasite marines over long distances and unlike MT, aliens can see parasites marines. Any decent team will keep about 1/2 of the marine team parasited, making them easy targets to sneak up on.
How come marines can see aliens on their minimap who are behind them, but aliens can't see any marines on hivesight anymore other than parasited ones? You used to see marines your teammates could see there (like you do on your MAP now) but you didn't have to hold down you map key and blindly wonder into a marine to do it!

I like it. Observatories may need to be less expensive to compensate tho.
Way back in the 2.0 betas, I believe MT cost energy. It constantly drained which ever observatory had it activated on, and it could be switched on and off. I really thought this feature was a good idea but it was dropped rather quickly.
