I was told to promote the aliens, I am trying to get Xeero and Saraph to join Aliens
  • MrMojoMrMojo Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9882Members, Constellation
So it's going to be about a 1.5 to 1 marine majority if people can pick their teams, right? And everyone knows how great and balanced giant NS games are in favor of aliens, right?

battle for the (foo) has allways amused me. It's like someone said "let's take a free game, add a tounament structure, then make people pay for it!" There is no reason why battle couldn't offer their servies for free - all they are paying for is the incredibly high cost of the servers they run, and they probally OWN their own servers physically. Thusly, we have another money making scheme - which is sadly quite effective.

Who said anything about paying? Really.. Before you starting dissing it. Read first.

    Such a shame.

Yea it is. The funny thing is its possible to get around that without using ie or netscape. But then your account could bug ~_~

WoW you have to load IE for 5mins, the horror!

I would sign up but are all the servers in the US?
  • l3igDl3igD Join Date: 2003-11-20 Member: 23262Members
Yes, Alot of people from other countries do sign up. They ping around 100 or more on the servers.

Omg firewater I hate you, we had a thread about this a long time ago. I am going to go search for it now.

Oh well, I find it hard to play NS seriously on a competetive level when alien success is often determined by luck (random hive selection aka "GG powersilo syndrome"), not to mention the total absence of any cheat detection system.

Unless, of course, you happen to be running on a non-Windows OS. Then it's a REAL horror. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> (Imagine, like someone would taint their shiny new car with whatever the old one is puking out from its rear <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

Personally, I wouldn't pay a penny of NS, but if they are making money out of this -congrats, wish I could be in-the-business too. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Where did that quote come from? This tournament now is free.. We do have the option of turning on paying to register.. ITS SET AT 0.00 NOW. It will not change untill after this tournament is over and the next one is starting.. It might not even been pay to play the 2nd time around. No one knows yet.. I played BFE (A tournament for dod by the same person) I payed $3 to play in the tournament for 12 weeks. Did this hurt me in anyway? no... I think it makes the player base better if you have to pay a small 1 time fee..anywayz back on topic... The tournament is free right now.. It is going to stay free untill it is over. Then we will worry about the 2nd tournament.

Its a misconception from the general business practice of BattleForTheGalaxy. For a lot of their tournaments, a fee (usually nominal, and covers the entire campagne) is charged. However, for the NS Tournament, there is no fee.

    Just to make it clear:

<span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>There is no fee to either sign up or play in the tournament</span></span>

If, in the future, NS gets enough of a following and playerbase, a small fee may be put in place. But not now.

later half of the last paragraph of[URL=http://ns.battleforthegalaxy.com/about.asp]

    under "Getting Started"

Perhaps it should be changed to avoid any misunderstandings.

Anyways, with classes over I guess I'll give this a shot if the whole thing is free...

Yea, I will work on getting someone to change it. Right now I posted it in the news.

I recommend any non competitive players who want to see what a competitive game is like to sign up, since there is no fee, and you can play as long as you want, or as little as you want, so if you don't like it, you can stop or you can keep playing.

It's more or less like a more organized version of NSPug. With an overall goal. Had I the time on Saturdays to play, I would.
  • FirewaterFirewater Balance Expert Join Date: 2002-12-12 Member: 10690Members, Constellation
You can play for just 1 hr if you want, if your saturdays are bogged down, its 16 hrs long the battle, so you can jump in at anytime, like I said this is a great way for people who want to get into some organized play, but don't have any experience. This is also great for people who like to "pub" but lacks the organization. the 10v10 format is great for people like who to pub in large servers, and also want organization and the teamwork that those large server rarely provide.

I just changed to the alien teams to be their new "prime" so now the tournament will be more balanced.
  • l3igDl3igD Join Date: 2003-11-20 Member: 23262Members
    And the tournament is 8v8 now. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

NS is not WH40K. The Kharaa commander is not a "progenitor". Neither is he blue/purple or equipped with an ovipositor.

    How about The Hivemind?

You will have lots of fun! I was in the first beta and it was great except for a couple problems but thats why it was beta. I am sure this time around it will be a lot more fun.

BFTG is for fun yes. BUT. To make it fun you need to listen in battles and not just be a rambo... If you want to join just to rambo dont sign up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yes, there is seriousness in all tournaments. Look at CPL do think its all just for fun there? There is a degree of fun and a degree of seriousness, if you are looking for fun and like to take orders(and give them), this is the place for you.
