well someone had to try and beat google... and fail miserably. Come back in a few month's time to see if it still works.

At least google had the decency to try it out first

I don't trust any company that offers that much space for free.

There's gotta be a catch somewhere

I don't get google's theory. Are they trying to get income from ads in the system which they can then use to buy more storage space?

edit: Haha: the catch is it's down, adventuremail go bye bye.

There is no excuse for downtime on professionally run server systems.

    Redundant backups.

In hindsight, I should have tested it out before posting it. That's the last time I use you guys as guinea pigs for sure!

I use FastMail. It's very cool, and you get to choose from lots of names. I'm using '@xsmail.com", but there's also '@sent.com', if you don't like the .fm ending.

Google dont need to by space. Can yoiu imagine how much space their search stuff takes up, let alone their page caches, image cache, labs, and child sites? Most users wont get anywhere near 10mb in the near future, let alone using a gigabyte. Gmail wont put a significant dent in their servers. And remember, all of this increases their stock price, making them all filthy filthy rich.

Gmail is very cool for webmail, it has some very nice ideas. I enjoy it muchily.
