you don't remember the eugenics (or as someone on these forums so succinctly put it, eubonics) wars from `96? Damn, they were a ****.
Khan was this guy who tried to do something involving a genesis device. (I think they're supposed to create worlds or life or somesuch, but when placed on a populated world it's like a really big bomb.) Kirk & co. stop him, apparently Kirk killed Khan's wife. And it involved warp speed.
EDIT: He was going to detonate it and kill people!

Khan was the leader of a group of genetically engineered "super-men" from the 1990s (hence my earlier comment). Unrest led to the eugenics wars and Khan and co. abandoned Earth in the sleeper ship Botany Bay. In the late 2200s, the Botany Bay was discovered by the USS Enterprise (original series). Khan and his people attempted to commandeer the Enterprise but were defeated. Kirk negotiated a deal with Khan to set him down on the planet of Ceti Alpha V where he and his people could build a society in peace. At the end of the episode, one character makes the comment on how it would be interesting to one day pay a visit to see what 'seed [they] planted today' or something like that.
In Star Trek II, the USS Reliant is investigating Ceti Alpha VI... only it's not Ceti Alpha VI. Something happened, destroying the climate of Ceti Alpha V, rendering it a desolate wasteland. Khan and only a few followers survived. He takes over the Reliant and moves to exact his revenge on Captain Kirk. Or Wrath, I suppose.
I think I got that right. Star Trek II is among my favorite movies and the only episode I ever seem to see of the original series on TV is the Khan episode.... I'll just ignore the added detail that I was a loony Trek nut until a couple years ago.
I've done more than kill you. I've...hurt you. And I wish to go on...hurting you. I shall leave you as you left me. As you left her. Marooned for all eternity...in the center of a dead planet. Buried alive....buried alive...

the even movies are the best:
Motion picture was kinda weird and not so good. II (Wrath of Khan). absolutely ruled. Almost always regarded as the best or second best Trek movie (usually to First Contact) III (Search for Spock). Kinda off-beat. Definitely set the trend for Trek characters never really dying. IV (Voyage Home). Not the best Trek movie, but a piece of work all its own. Trek meets 1986 San Francisco. Highest-grossing trek film, I believe. Very entertaining V (Final Frontiet). Crap. Even Gene Roddenberry thought it apocryphal. VI (Undiscovered Country). Original crew at its best in their final outing. Tremendous movie, but no comparison to II. 7 (Generations). Interesting crossover, but with many weak points 8 (First Contact). Hoo boy. Terrific movie. Trek gets dark and says to hell with this nice guy business. Enterprise returns as a warship, and we start seeing the effects the dominion had on the federation through DS9 - i.e. they are no longer just the pansy explorer types, but out with some new ships to kick some ****. 9 (Insurrection). Haven't seen it, but I hear it's not quite that good. 10 (Nemesis). This one was weird. It was good, but I don't know if it quite held up to the even/odd trend.
Insurrection = teh suxxorz. Nemesis was OK, not bad but not great either. Just came out of it thinking "Meh".
I'd have to put 2 over 8. I find it much more 'gritty' and quintessentially Star Trek then 8, plus the tie-in with the original series is nice. The Spock/Kirk moment in engineering is truely touching and a defining moment in Star Trek.
Having said that, 8 is definately the second best.

That's what makes him so awesome, especially after the episode of the original series. Despite being a villain then, he was still a class act, and very respectful of Kirk's generosity in letting them go. Then when the climate b0rked and his wife died, he turned into a pile of seething hate as we see in the movie.
Ooooh, I gotta watch it again soon

Nemesis was pretty scarce on the details for a trek movie, I left the theater with more questions then when I came in.
How did they create a 2nd Data? Was it his brother? But if so why wasn't he evil? And the kid, was he a clone of Picard? How did they clone him? WHY did they clone him? Where the hell did this super-powerful warlike race of aliens come from?
I was hoping they would round up the movie series with a nice all out war. You know, like have Earth actually get attacked? I mean come now, WHALES caused more harm to Earth than the BORG... FRIKIN WHALES.

Yes. They explained that.
Troi said that they could have done it from a single skin cell or hair follicle. The skin I can understand, but where the hell are they going to get a hair follicle from PICARD?!
They were going to age the clone, then swap out Picard and replace him with Shinzon (the clone) to destroy the UFP from within.
Gee, you mean the ROMULANS? Did you watch the first series? The Romulans were like their first enemy. The other race is the Remans, of the planet Remus. And Romulus and Remus orbit each other.
I win.

And to be more cluey.
Romulus & Remus were the original two brothers who founded a great city in the country which would one day be called Italy (some legends name them as being raised by wolves), and each chose the other for the honour of naming the city, which eventually fell to Remus, who in honour of his brother named it....
