Chak sighed as he leaned against the wall of the docking bay and calmly lit a cigarette. The waved his lighter out and then stuffed it in his pocket as he gently took a drag on the bud. He peeked out from the corner of his eye to catch a few of the crew men making their rounds in and out of the docking bay with cargo loads large and small. He shook his head and continued to smoke.
He heard the sounds of footsteps coming towards him, but he didn't look up. He would rather keep his suspense adrift until he saw the face of the other person. When he finally looked up after the person stoppe short, he only grinned. It was Kina, his girlfriend. He stood upright and formaly.
"Looks like I caught you resting on the job." she teased. She leaned in closer to him and he put a friendly arm around her waist.
"Only when I'm really tired..." he joked. She gave him a gentle hug and then let go. She drifted back a few feet to stand at a normal distance, and then cleared her throat.
"Chak, I didn't want to tell anyone, but..." she leaned in closer to whisper. "I've been noticing some funny things going on in Fluidics Control. It's just, moist and damp, and sticky too." she leaned back out from her whisper.
"And that means what to me?" he asked, taking another drag on his cigarette. She looked around and walked closer to him.
"You've heard about the recent ship accident not too far from here, one hundred crew did, sporadic signs of parasitic life forms on the ship, contact lost, only thirty survivors..." she changed expressions. "I have a bad feeling..."
Chak only laughed. "Oh dont worry about it. I'm sure its just a broken environment regulator. I'll give word to the engineering teams. Maybe they can take a look at it." he reassured her. She smiled, and then nodded.
"You might be right. Anyway, I need to get back on schedule, the boss is a hardass when you're not on time." she turned quickly, but Chak caught her on the arm and she looked back. He locked his eyes on her and then she quickly got the idea. She turned back to give him a quick hug, and then a kiss on the cheek. Chak moved his arms around the back of her body, and she quickly yelped when he touched a sensitive spot. She pushed herself away and only smiled, walking off slowly as Chak admired the view.

"Hell if I know, environment regulators are working just fine. I just put a new cartridge of OCC-17 inside." the tech complained.
"Well check the tank then. There mayb be something wrong with it."
"It doesnt seem like it."
"What may not seem like much can escalate into something much worse."
"Aye sir."

The officer quickly made his way through the double doors and into the control room where his superior awaited the vital reports they had been recieving from the engineering staff. As soon as his commanding officer caught sight of him, he turned and his expression became anxious.
"The Status, sir..." the officer handed over the folder of documents the staff had compiled in the last few hours.
"This is the best they could come up with?" he asked.
The officer winced. "No sir, but thats what they did." The commanding officer did not look pleased. He took another look at the fine print.
"Environment fluxuation, humidity increase, some electronic loss, strange fluid on the walls. This just seems like an average malfunction in the ER (Environmental Regulator) or a sewage leak..."
"Sir, there are no sewage lines moving anywhere near that area... sir..." the officer became quiet.
"Whatever the case, I want this problem solved. You've got three hours to come up with a solution, and I want it soon. If this gets out of hand the entire station could become full of this crap." the captain grimaced. The officer only nodded and then headed out the doors.

"Hey... Wepps... check this out man..." Bryant called his fellow Engineer Techie over to look at the strange things he was seeing on the walls.
"This had better be good..." Wepps added.
"Dude... look at this..." Bryant pointed out the slime on the wall. Underneath the slime, something was pulsing... moving slowly, but moving. Wepps backed up and looked at it from a different perspective.
"I had better call this in..." he advised. Bryant nodded as he continued to gaze at the odd substance come alive slowly.
"What the hell are you..." he said to himself...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"God damnit, I cant get the door open!"
"You had better damn well get that door open or else we are all dead!"
"I'm trying!"
Bryant pulled hard on the emergency release switch next to the large blast doors blocking them inside of Fluidics Control. Bryant strained, and finally managed to yank the lever down to a lower level. The door began to ascend slowly, and Bryant quickly chanted "Cmon cmon" as it went up slowly. Wepps perked his ears.
"Did you hear that?" he asked. Bryant looked back.
"Hear what?" he asked. Wepps heard the sound again. This time, a sloshing and clattering sound. Quick and brief, he heard it again. Wepps backed up to the door that was opening and looked out into the darkened area of Fluidics Control.
"Something is in here..." he panicked. Bryant looked around and only saw the darkness. The lights had gone out about half an hour ago, and they had been trying to get out of Fluidics. Wepps began to loose his nerve.
"I know what this is! I know what's going on now! We gotta get out of here man, we gotta get out of here! Just get under the doors, hurry!" Wepps advised quickly. Bryant was confused, but Wepps dove down and began to crawl underneath the blast doors to get out of Fluidics. Bryant decided to follow, and also began to crawl on his belly into the connector hallway. Bryant felt a sharp pain in his foot, but he kept crawling.
They both managed to reach the other side of the two-foot thick steel door, and hit the emergency overide to close it again. The door proceeded back downward until it hit the ground with a clang, and the two men looked at each other. Then Bryant remembered the pain in his foot and lifted his boot up to look. There were sharp needles imbeded inside of his shoe, which went through it and nipped at his bare foot. Somehow it had eaten through his suit and onto his feet.
"What the hell..." he said to himself...
"Cmon, we need to get back to the bridge." Wepps advised. Bryant nodded, and they headed off for the command deck.
Kina now lay rested on top of Chak's body in his quarters, unclothed from earlier "meetings", since two hours ago, and he had been asleep for the duration of that time until now. He let his hand glide up and down her bare back, and she began to stir from her sleep. She shook her head and sent her hand through her hair as she squinted to look around.
"Well hello there..." Chak smiled. She managed a weak smile as she continued to stare. Chak gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and then decided that he might be up for some more fun, until he heard what sounded like a disruption.
The lights in his quarters went out in a snap, and his eyes darted back and fourth to try and see what was going on. He heard a clanging noise coming from above him... from the vents...
A dim set of lights came up in replacement to the primary set, and Chak quickly looked around to see what was going on. The intercomm came up shortly after to announce a broadcast to the station: a rare occurance.
"All crews are to report to Docking Bay A immediately. No exceptions. This is the Captain, that is all." The intercomm clicked off, and Chak began to try and think what this was all beging to mean. He began to feel meteoric as the dim lights continued to shine and the rumbling became louder from the vents above him. He looked at Kina who was now fully awake and shifting.
"What do we do?" she asked.
"Put some clothes on, I know where we can go. Screw Docking Bay A..." he responded. He had his own agenda in mind.
