Lerk heavy?
I was just mucking about on a map with a catapult to throw aliens in to the marine base, well i decide to see which one went farthest and which went the shortest and the results were from farthest to shortest...

Skulk - makes sense
Fade - mabey
Onos - this seems wrong
lerk -
gorge - i know his fat but and onos beat him!

what does everyone think of this just the way the map is set up or do u rally think onos weigh less than lerks?

Lets fix everything because of a catapult on a custom map.

I don't care about fixing it (its not broken) i just wondered what people thought that the onos seems lighter then a lerk, and gorge.

well you got to consider the flight system. The weight's been added because of previous complaints about not being heavy enough...

You were holding crouch weren't you? I mean otherwise the flying stuff will affect it.

Everyone knows that the Onos is hollow, how is it supposed to fit a marine supposed to fit a marine inside otherwise?

Come on people the answer should be simple.

    Nanites...

    It's those damned nanites again!

    Curse them!

Or virtual Mother Nature decided to make the onos more aerodynamic than the fatteh.

At the risk of killing a joke, I don't think the Half Life engine has any real physics...it's probably arbitrary.

It does, it's just very, very rudimentary. It's realistic, perhaps, but a lot of neat effects in the original game were scripted events.

The thing is, maximum air speed is 3 times run speed. Since a katapult doesn't give a damned what the object on it weighs it will fling it away at 3 times run speed if nothing unforseen happens. That means you get a list sorted by run speed with the possible exception of the lerk which has other movement code(fly/glide) which might affect it.

Or if your looking for a silly explanation, the gorge has to fit a hive in there so naturally it must be heavier than an onos. and the lerk, uhh... nanites.... no no , bacterium...

a lerk has wings made from skin flaps. these skin flaps have to be large enough so that when he flaps them, he pushes large amounts of air downwards and creates lift. if a lerk does not flap his wings and falls, the skin flaps create resistance and he falls slower. so if he is catapaulted and he does not flap his wings, the skin flaps will create resistance to the forward motion and he wont move as fast.

    simple realistic explanation

Except that it's not realistic at all.

Birds (And bats) create lift by having an airfoil. Flapping provides thrust (Remember the four main forces in flight. Thrust, drag, lift and weight!), NOT lift. The natural shape of the wing does that. If you're confused that it doesn't look like an airplane wing, then this 20 second tutorial is not for you. Go to a physics professor and ask.

Either way, the 3x runspeed is the answer. Set a race between all five evolutions. You'll get the same results as the catapult did.
