Intarwebbing Mein Ps2

<div class="IPBDescription">and not being broke</div> to make a long story short: i have a few bucks lying around, and an offline ps2 in my room. i would like to change the "offline" but without changing the "i have a few bucks" part.

ps2 is in my room, dsl modem is downstairs. modem has a firewall and WAP built into it. parents hate wires, so the only option i have is 802.11b (unless i forgot something)

i'm planning on buying everything in a couple days, so far i have found:
<a href='http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product%5Fcode=305936&pfp=EXTERNAL' target='_blank'>WGA11B Wireless-B Game Adapter, 802.11b - $79.99</a>
and <a href='http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?dept=2636&product_id=1974925&path=0%3A2636%3A37874%3A118402%3A38978' target='_blank'>Sony Network Adapter PS2 - $35.82</a>
total is 115.81 + s/h

anyone know of a way to do it for ~$100?

run a wire through the floor, and down the wall. duct tape it to the walls. tell your parents that youll change it to wireless for $115 plus shipping.

they will live with the wires.

Also, you haven't factored in that unless you already have a WAP, that 'game adapter' (which is just a local-point wifi bridge) will be completely and totally useless. It only handles one end of the connection.

Run the wires. Get your parents to cough up if there's a problem.
Alternately, if you have a computer in your room which is connected to the DSL line, invest in a cheapo four-port 'mini hub'. It'll run you about $20, and you can just get a few new wires... one for your computer, one for the PS2. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i suppose $115 it is then

Don't buy one of those silly game adapters. They are the same thing as their meant-for-pc counterparts but are extra expensive just because of the sticker that goes "made for consoles omg!11"

Just get something to go from wired to wireless.

Also, when you get your PS2 hooked up to the interweb, I highly highly highly recommend the <a href='http://www.gameshark.com/?s=1163_1a9d9f7b-f0bf-494d-bfdf-fe5e5bc5e56&a=products&id=134' target='_blank'>Gameshark Media Player</a>. It plays MP3s, MPEGs, DIVXs, etc. on your tv, streaming them over the network from your computer. It is the mega pwn.

i see doomeh really likes his gs media player, i'll be snagging one then

and i believe you're talking about an ethernet bridge, that would be the <a href='http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=297249&pfp=BROWSE' target='_blank'>linksys WET11</a> for $99
    <a href='http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50257917&pfp=SEARCH' target='_blank'>d-link</a> seems to have one, but i don't like d-link.

it seems that the game adapter is the cheapest here by $20

edit: i've looked at the net extender. bad idea since:
    1 - i already have a WAP
2 - you can only use one computer/whatever at a time (maximum of two), i have three things i need to network (desktop, laptop, ps2)
3 - it's more expensive than the game adapter
    4 - three is a boring number

edit2: is socom 2 online any good? (i'm getting it because of possible online stuff for mgs3 and ac05 and stuff, from what i hear socom 2 should help pass the time)

edit3: nice find doom, now i won't have to use the laptop's crapptacular speakers to play mp3's in mein room. much lurv @ dewm

Yes, I lurv my Gameshark Media Player. :)

Why do you have to get a whole expensive Ethernet Bridge? You should be able to just pick up a Router and while that has extra crap you won't need it will be able to connect to your network just the same (as far as I know anyway...).

according to my friend who works in networking, you can't use a WAP as a bridge (that's what he says anyways)

well, i found all of that stuff cheaper at amazon, so i got those two and a pcmcia 802.11b card (for teh laptop) for around $105. that left me with enough cash to go grab socom II (no headset) and the media player! winr

Socom2 online rocks! at peak ours theres around 35,000 people on too play with.

Theres a slight problem of lag, but it isnt terribly bad.

If you do get it, absolutely <b>make sure you get a headset!</b>

quick question: is the ps2's usb port standard? meaning can i buy a $10 usb keyboard and use that or do i have to buy sony's keyboard?
