/me has 45 minutes to go untell mandrake is ready to be burned.

You know... Slax likes my system better than slackware... You'd think if they can make a CD that boots correctly and supports my hardware, they could make there friggin OS do the same...

Anyway, next up to bat, mandrake, hopefully not a strike 3.

Mandrake's okay... a little too happy-happy-windows-friendly IMHO. Slax and Knoppix use a different kernel than regular OS's AFAIK... Gentoo calls it "genkernel". It dynamically generates a kernel to fit your hardware on boot, but this is slow and probably doesn't allow for much customization (I never choose it). BTW, on LinuxQuestions.org's hardware compatibility list, people have gotten WUSB11 to work on FC1, kernel 2.4.x. There was a link on the page to some atmel drivers, that might help you. One also got it to work with mandrake, but with serious errors (and said he'd just throw the thing away and buy a WET11 bridge).

-What about slackware was "****"ing you off?

btw, I believe you can copy the config files from Slax to Slackware if it worked well for you.

-you can also get SuSE personal for free.

-I like to use gconfig instead of xconfig or menuconfig when compiling the kernel. Give that a go (I think you need GNOME for that tho)

I'm just looking for somthing that works. Anyway, I'm installiong Mandrake 10 rite now. I have the atmel drivers, but I have no clue how to use them. Anyway, I'll try one more time.

I like KDE too XFCE and Gnome are also both good, but KDE just rawks.

List of Linux CD's I have laying around now...

    Redhat 8.1
    Redhat 9
    Fedora Core 1
    Fedora Core 2 Test 3
    Fedora Core 2
    Slackware 9.1
    Mandrake 10
    Slax
Peanut Linux (My 1st distro from a few years back)

I usually go for windows again after I fail to get the internet working... My old comp had a USB Ethernet adapter, my new one has a USB Wlan adapter. Meh...

    <a href='http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/private/download/index.html' target='_blank'>Use SUSE</a>.

Fedora will break Windows XP, Mandrake is buggier than an ants' nest, Debian will turn you into a greasy hippy, and Gentoo will make your PC overheat.

    Okay, maybe not entirely accurate or fair, but SUSE's lovely. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So far, Mandrake has been the best one. No hardware conflicts, My sound actually works, Tux Racer doesn't freez up my computer.

Open GL screensavers work, I like Mandrake. Only thing that pisses me off this time is it didn't include the Kernel Source in the install...

I need the kernel source to get my wlan driver working...

Run mandrake update and search for "kernel" then install the version of kernel source which is the same as your kernel.. or search on the cd's for a kernel source .rpm file.

The onlyKernel RPM I found on the CD's was the 2.6.7 kernel... I'm running a 2.4.x kernel and I've had problems with the 2.6.x on every distro I've tryed so far. I'll continue to look tho.

    2.4 is just... old....
