A Very Small Hardware Question

About disks....
Well, to start off, I finally found the time to connect a secondary hard disk to my computer (yay for me)
But then here's the problem....whenever I go into My Computer, I simply do not see the drive, it's like invisible.
It doesn't show up in My Computer, BUT I can access it if I manually type in the drive letter. It is also shown connected to the PC by the hardware manager, and I successfully remapped the drive to a new letter (which is supposedly undoable if the hard disk isn't plugged in well)
So I ask, why doesn't it show up at all? It's there, but you can't see it
BTW, I have 2 CD-drives, a Floppy drive, and my hard disk connected. I heard rumors about Windows only displaying 4 of them....

If it should already be formatted, then there is a problem. Check your master/slave settings and also check in your BIOS to see if it detects the drive.
* Right click on the "My Computer Icon".
* Select properties or handle or something like that (I don't know the translation. It's at the top, below open, explore and search).
* Under Storage (left side of the new window), click the disk option.
* If your new disk doesn't have a partition, create one (windows will format the harddrive).

If you're using XP, that shouldn't be a problem. I've got 3 harddrives, 1 floppy, 1 CD-drive and 1 Iomega drive connected, and they work fine.
Select "Manage"
In the new window, Computer Management, select "Disk Management" in the left-hand panel.
new wizard may appear, "Initialize and Convert Disk Wizard". This wizard appears when the disk is not initialized. In order for Windows to create a partition the drive must be initialized (XP) or "Write a Signature" (2000). If the drive is not going to be setup in a RAID environment do not convert the drive to Dynamic.
After completing the "Initialize and Convert Disk Wizard" the drive needs to be partitioned. The initialized drive will display the available "Unallocated" space. To partition the drive Right-click on the "Unallocated" region and select either "New Partition or Create Partition"
My new disk also has a partition set in it.
I failed to mention that I formatted the disk directly after I connected it, and BIOS settings are all A-OK
I also checked up with my friend and he had absolutely NO IDEA why this happened....
BTW, I'm on XP.....silly me HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN THE OS?!
EDIT : Just to clarify....
I can access the disk, it works fine, I can put files in it. It just simply doesn't show up in My Computer.
