<div class="IPBDescription">Semi Noobs opinions</div> Ive been away since b2 but started playing again last week.
Combat seems to usualy follow the same Pattern. If one team gets an early significant lead they will win except on rare occasions.
In long games aliens almost always win. Im talking 20 minutue plus. For marines to win they need to be actively rushing the hive either on foot or jp early to midgame. Even if marines have much superior levels they will still lose in a long game. Once aliens have 4+ fades its usualy over for marines. This is all assuming that at least 1 person is healing/repairing the hive/cc to prevent sudden rushes winning a game.
The tech tree is in favour of aliens. Your fade is basically the ultimate killer and all he needs is carapace, regen, adrenaline and celerity to be 100% effective in combat. So in 7 levels your at near maximum efficiency. Marines need more skills to be as comparatively effective.
If you want pure killing ive found for me the best tech path for marines is Damage 1 > Shotgun > Resupply > Hmg > Damage 2 > Armor 1 > Damage 3 > Armor 2 > Heavy Armor
If you want to kill the hive asap Damage 1 > Shotgun > Resupply > Armor 1 > Armor 2 > Jetpack > Damage 2 > Damage 3 > Armor 3
The server I mainly play on has a spawm mod where all the dead spawn together instead of 1 at a time. This is so utterly essential that its a mystery how standard combat has the normal spawn system. 3/5 games consist of camping the enemy spawn and pathetically easilly ganking the lone enemy player the second he spawns. Having a few seconds immunity on some servers is almost no help.
The same server also allows you to go beyond lvl 10 which is far more fun than normal combat as the game quickly gets stale when youve go no more upgrades to spend.
In all I think its more fun to play marines in combat. You can choose between 3 distinct weapons and HA or JP + you get lots of nifty gadgets and tricks.
Aliens is pretty much kill 2 people get carapace or leap kill a few more go fade and then just rampage for the rest of the game. Im not a fan of lerk so theres not much variety in my opinion.

Also is the server you play on y0 clan by any chance ? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yer it is the YO clan server, I probably play there the most.
ive noticed that when everyone is level 10 it doesnt matter what the alien do, the marines can just weld and counter attack.
your rine tech tree was a little off, HA and JP need 2 level points.
If people stay Skulk. Otherwise, its just utterly impossible for marines to kill one higher lifeform every few seconds - and even harder for them to do it all of them at once first, while getting one lifeform backup every few seconds.
My suggestion is to give every marine a welder by start to improve their late-game!
-The welder guys would become stronger (one more Weapon Up e.g.)
-It teaches new players to use the welder cause it's so important that they dont need to invest one level in it; they just have it and will try it)
-It helps to counter Focus (new guys just need to realize that welding after each battle is important!)
-It helps to counter Webs (really, Battegorge+one liveform bigger than skulk/lerk = teh win)
-It encourages HA-Trains, cause those guys won't loose firepower with free welder!
the rest should go jp and what ever gun they want.
the ha breaks through to the hive area and the jp's flood in and kill the hive.
any that die on the way stay in base and wate for next rush if the rush fails.
you are eather attacking or loseing, you can not stay and deffend the cc and exspect to win.
note: mines are a wonderful thing, they may not kill but they will make it easyer for you to kill them
