Hi, what is better AMX X mod OR AMX?.....and why? I really don't know which one to go for, I just what to the most I can with all those great plugins....
amx: I started with it. loads better than admin mod, very extensible, all sorts of code APIs into databases and such. mostly skewed for CS, I had to hack much of the config files out to get it loaded with NS and then load ns2amx module to get many of the plugins/mods to work correctly. Most support provided by the forums given that the developers have bolted and aren't supporting it anymore. Spotty documentation. Fresh executibles for new steam releases have to be found on the forums.
amxx: fresh dev team, seems to be rolling well. they've included the ns2amx api into their engine code in the latest amxx so you don't need to have that module loaded for half of the modules you'll find on the nsmod.org bboards. This code seems more stable for me than the amx orig train ever was. Great documentation, imho. EXEs for all platforms are easy to find and seem to be updated often.
Either should work for modns.org plugins but with the engine natives in the amxx train, amxx should be easier to compile mods with amxx. Under old amx everytime Steve updated ns2amx you had to recomp all the mods, which was a pain.. AMX is old and stale, amxx is fresh and being updated as valve breaks and fixes steam over and over. This alone is worth running it(amxx) for me. I always want to know why people would ever consider running old buggy code, but then people are playing ns1.x so I suppose someone out there always has to be different. I'd suggest running something that's being supported and in active development rather than something that's old and not going to be fixed quick when valve hokes something up.
I recommend waiting for the 0.20 release of AMXX. If you know what you are doing you can get most of the AMXMod plugins to work with AMXX 0.16, but that involves knowing what you are doing. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The 0.20 version of AMXModX will have a special version just for Natural-Selection with all the default plugins especially designed for NS. Mainly just small things like when the round ends it will say what map is next and how much time is left. Admin slay will work fine in combat/classic and instantly. Plus anything else I can think of to change to make it work perfectly out of the box.

admin mod may work better out of the box for newbies but it lacks 100% of the functionality I get from amx.. I don't even consider them to be competitors because AMX so blows admin mod out of the water. every few weeks there is someone requesting some amx plugin from modns.org to be ported to admin mod and consistantly the devs on modns.org just laugh in their faces, stating that admin mod lacks even basic functionality needed to do anything complex. After a few weeks of this we then see basic help/config questions from these people about getting amx working.
Skip admin mod and go directly to amx or amxx.. Don't waste your time on old stale code that's not extensible and not going to have new mods/plugins written for it.

most useful ones i've seen
1. gorge hook
2. lerklift
3. unstuckpro
4. /res
5. uncomm
amxx is still early works really but it will deff be more tsable that that crap you call amx.
though for basic server admin adminmod beats all, installed and running with admins under 5min.
