Oh, and the X in X800 stands for 10. Its the 10800 Pro, latest model. Its about twice as fast as the 9800 Pro.

He's right. Technically the X800 is better but I would go for the 9800 Pro and wait till the price goes down. As you said, money isn't an issue so choose what you wish.
I have a computer w/ X800 XT on order - should get here 7/14ish - I'll let you know the how THAT does
<shrugs shoulders> your choice!
ati_npatch is set to 1 in the console ,turn it to 0 and it should work perfectly fine.
and half life sucks with that mode on.
ooh is it blackmail or ...
Ah ok, just had a hunch. :-)

It does ? its working fine for me.
Also drop the ram and get 2 2gb ddr4000 ram and 2 15k (rotation thingy) 1TB harddrive..
It's gonna be soo powerful that in the end your floppy disk will end up being the bottleneck <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Hell, if money isnt an issue, do you model? If so, you could buy 4 of those computers and set up network rendering and perhaps use one as a server.. (not to mention lan party with friends) About the monitor, be sure it can support of to 20xx * 16xx with a decent refresh-rate
How many hardrives can your MOBO support? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Here's the hardrive you should have, danish site but you can still see spec:
<a href='http://www.edbpriser.dk/Listprices.asp?ID=90670' target='_blank'>here</a>
And stick with the K8V, or possibly an A8V. But avoid the crappy nForce3... even the 250 has pitiful performance compared to the VIA K8T800 chipset.
And what the heck are you talking about, Starchy? I'm using an Ath64 right now, and it works just fine. That's one of the Ath64's strong points, as compared to the IA64 (intel's 64-bit architecture). The Ath64 is actually FASTER at 32-bit code than the AthXP. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also, with some current (early) benchmarks, the SLI 6800s are actually still SLOWER than the X800 XTPE. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> It's pathetic.
AMD's 64-bit processors are backward compatible. It runs 32 bit applications just fine. And get RAID 0.
I dont know if the dual pair means it takes up to sockets but def.. fill up your mother boards sockets with these <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anandtech recommends a good monitor as well

OH NO WITCHES RUN!!!! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
annnywho... i have a radeon 9600 xt works fine for me and all my games...
anyway that video card is to old for me, i'm thinking in the future! Like the games HL2, Doom 3, etc.
Antec's 430W PSU should run your rig fine.
And Corsair is just a name. You're mostly paying $40 extra for a shiny heatspreader, which doesn't actually do jack crap. The difference between Corsair and a no-name at this point is marginal, at best. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
BUT it doesent support The future DX crap..
The geforce 6800 ultra Shipped TODAY...... and it does...
The dowside to the 6800 is that it needs 2 power dongles inside ur pc...... and that it most likely wont run with anything less than a 480 watt power supply
Ive done extensive research on it...
The Radeons are better in lower resolutions, and better with AA/AF stuff, which is why u usually run them at like 800/600 or 1024/768 with high AA and AF... and it looks just fine
The Geforces unleash thier power at higher resolutions and take larger framerate hits with AA/AF ...
Beyond that its just preference.... but im all nvidia all the way... gotta love high resolutions...

check out the neo from msi

I have finalized my Comp and intend to buy soon enough.
GO ATI!!!
Drop the $ony DVD burner and go with the latest liteon model. Much cheaper and less bogus.
From what I've heard "Sapphire" make their video cards as close as possible to the chip-makers specifications. You might consider checking if sapphire make an x800.
If you were feeling cool you could drop those HDs down a few gigs and get a third. Then RAID it up. Super-fast and crash resistant.
I've got an Antec case and it's really awesome. Seriously, it's got so much room inside and you can dismantle almost everything without a screwdriver. The rack that holds the hard-drives has got little rubber lugs at every attachment point to dampen vibration. The power supply has got two fans, one extracting over the CPU and one blowing out the back. It's got another slot in the front for a fan that blows directly though the HDs though the fan doesn't come standard. All in all it's a really awesome case. A plesure to work with and it looks damn cool.
