Router Problems.

it will never end!!
Hey,
A while ago comcast forced us into getting a home router so we would only broadcast 1 external ip address back to them. So we went out and got a home router (what choice did we have?), a SMC Barricade SMC7008ABR.
The problem is mainly this:
Every once in a blue moon, a computer hooked up to the router will cease to perform some network tasks (while others function perfectly, Steam has always worked and has not given out on me). eg, mIRC cannot connect, you can browse some websites but not others, etc.
If I just plug a computer directly into the modem. It works flawlessly.
We aren't really getting much help from the guys at SMC tech support.
Any help on this would be great.
btw, the only network setting that was really changed was "Media Type" was "Autosense" changed to "10Mbps Half-Duplex"

They basicly said that we can only send back 1 ip address, they got mad because we were sending back 3. They said they would make us pay more $ a month if we didn't cut it down to 1.
Which befuddles me because it's the same bandwith usage..
Say they have a block of 25 IPs. This means they can have 25 individual subscribers (theoretical ISP). Now, one of those users is using up five of their IPs. Which means they can only sell a total of 21 service-packages. Now if five do that, then they'll only have those five subscribers, and be out of IPs. They'll end up with $250/mo (assumong $50/mo/sub) instead of $1250.
This is an extreme case... but what if everyone on your ISP used two IPs, but only paid for one? it'd cut their potential income by half. Three? It'll cut it by a third.
Now think about that... say they'd be making $99,999/mo from subscriptions (more realistic ISP) with their block filled, one IP per subscriber. If all subscribers use three, and their IP block is filled, they will only actually bring in $33,333. Almost a $70,000 loss. And if each only use two? 'Only' a $50,000 loss.
The short version is, an ISP doesn't get to hand out IPs willy-nilly. They have a certain number of them. And if you use up more than you're allotted, you will cut into their income.
But of course if you're willing to pay for the three subscriptions, they should be just fine with that.
I'm still really confused at what the problem is though. I've read through the manual (box and online), can't find anything that anwsers my problem.
Are my symptoms obviously shouting out I did a certain thing wrong?
