<div class="IPBDescription">Some general good practices.</div>Just thought I'd jot down some stuff about commanding.
The most important thing to remember when you're commanding is DO NOT PANIC. Things get pretty hectic sometimes with marines screaming for health and ammo or whatever else they may want.
The very first thing, and I mean the VERY FIRST thing you want to do is put up an infantry portal so dead marines can respawn. This is absolutely crucial. Do not forget this. Depending on the size of the game, you might even want to build two.
Being commander is all about responsibility towards your troops. One of the most important things you can do for them (especially if they don't know the map) is give them waypoints. If they have waypoints, the marines will hopefully be less prone to wandering off alone and getting eaten.
Part of NS is guarding objectives. Try and rotate marines through objectives so the same marines isn't in the same place for the entire game. If a marine is good and follows your orders, reward them with weapons, health, and ammo. Marines that work as a team win. Marines that go off on their own do not.
Another important facet in your role as commander is resource management. You need rps to build things and upgrade your troops. In some cases, rps which you might use to give out health or ammo might be better saved for upgrades. Remember, just because a marine asks for health or ammo or whatever, doesn't mean you *have* to give it to them. Your average marine with an LMG is not worth spending a lot of rps on unless they are performing a particularly key function.
On the other hand, the marine with and HMG and heavy armor *is* probably worth keeping alive due to the large number of rps you have invested in their armor and weapon.
Try and keep an eye on your troops as you may be able to warn them of aliens in their vicinity that they are not aware of.
Remember, turtling is NOT a good tactic, so don't waste too many rps on base defense. You're better off spending those rps upgrading the weapons are armor of your troops.
Anyway... just a couple of things to keep in mind!
