<div class="IPBDescription">bein dumb</div> ehem hem, hello. i dunno if any of you have any knowledge of starcraft maps but i cant figure this crap out so if any of you can help me it would be appreciated...

im making a sc map, and i want it to be a "use map settings" map... it has 2 terran (humans) on the bottom of the map and 6 zerg (computers) on the top, my problem is i cant get the zerg to function normally, like they would in any other human vs computer game....

ive tried tons of scripts, and the most i can get them to do is mine with one drone (while the other 3 sit there occasionally setting up more hatcherys... ive sat watching them for a long time and thats all they do, i just want them to build and stuff like normal... whats the deal?!

    I used to make maps. I forgot what it was. It somewhere in the scripts, I think you have to set a lot of them manually.

    do you have the ultra tweaked out editor? x-tra starcraft editor i think its called.

    in that there are scripts for ai.


    here is an attached map i made a while back, if you open it in the normal editor it will mess it all up, but you can play it and open it in the x-tra editor and look at it. it has 2 ai in it and 2 human places.

    yes, thats the editor i have, but even after i set all the scripts and stuff the same thing still happens...

    I just notice that starcraft had an update in june first and it killed most defense maps with stacking.

    What I'd do is remove all those scripts apart from the Expansion Insane AI, save the map, run it and see if it works. It should do. Then add a script at a time until it stops working. Come back and tell us which script is causing the problem.

    Edit: While I'm not too sure about any Custom AI scripts, I can tell you the Expansion Insane AI script does not need a preserve trigger. None of the basic AI scripts do. It might be that but I doubt it. It could also be that your trying to run too many AI scripts at the same location and it has no idea what to do.

    I remember it. Create a zone around the Zerg base (a larger one) and give it a name. Then execute the Zerg Expansion Campaign (difficulty of your choice) at that location.     EDIT: Whoops, didn't see the picture. :/

    Just create a "Always" trigger and put that in. No trigger preserve. And of course, only one AI script.

    Dammit , StarCraft nostalgy strikes again...

    I think I see what you're up to , create an "endurance" map right ? Where human players have to crush computer foes one by one , taking the unextracted ressources to rebuild their armies and survive ?

    By the way : do mess around with the editor , the possibilities are endless (more so with the Platinium Aspect hack , which lets you place buildings anywhere and add up to 255 upgrade levels)

    hmm ive run into a new problem.... they arent building drones... therefore they get no resources... therefore they build a bunch of lings and overlords and stop... i want em to build : /

    You do know that at a start location, a hatchery and 4 drones are placed automatically? or do you mean that they dont build more and those 4 won't mine?

    Edit: Can we get an update of just what scripts your running at the location now?

    im running what rpg told me to run scriptwise...

    the problem is, the start locations... dont work... i had to put hatcherys and 4 drones for them...

    the other problem is they dont mine, they send all 4 drones they start with to mine, then over time they use them up to build hatcherys and a spawning pool, then they just go crazy with lings and overlords... they just... stop mining... its getting very annoying

    Not in games with 'use map settings'.

    And that's odd... Maybe you should upload the map so I can take a look at it...

    Try now.

    EDIT: Forgot to mention that you'll have to place the Terran HQs for all the players, if you are going to use the 'use map settings' thing.

    And just spotted. You have the 'user selectable' in there. Can't do that with 'use map settings'. You'll have to pre-define the players' races and place starting buildings for them.

    What I did in this map was create an AI trigger for <i>every</i> AI player, not one for all of them in a 'force'. That should solve your problems. And as for other problems, read above.     did u look at the scripting in my map? i never had any problems with it, except that they made a buttload of overlords and maxed out the map limit. but that didnt happen till late in the game.

    user selectable worked fine... its just the 2 bottom players, me and my friend who can choose whoever we want, vs the 6 top players... the zerg... the bottom start locations worked fine...

    it didnt change anything... they still dont build drones, or geysers...

    Use a seperate location for each zerg AI. And the location should only strech over their hatchery and nothing else. Also if you have multiple scripts being executed in the same area it will confuse the game, so only use 1 AI per zerg player.

    bah crap heres the new update, i minimized the locations to only go around the hatcherys and i gave them each their own identical script, but heres what happens

    far left + far right hatcher: build 2 overlords, and some drones, eventually make a spawning pool but still make some drones....

    all the middle hatcherys: 2 overlords and a spawning pool... after the middle ones build the spawning pool all they build is lings, hatcherys, and creep colonies... they end up using their 4 starting drones and thats the end of them... whats up with THAT?

    Dont you have to put scripts over top of the resources you want the ai to mine? (its been a while since I've mapped for SC)

    did you even bother to look at my map?

    as far as i remember i didnt set locations for the ai, i just told it to run the script at everywhere. i set locations for specific events like i remember at the small toss base it gets overrun with zerg a few seconds into the game, then zerg come and build there.

    Okay. New day, new ideas. Forgot to add that you should place those hatcheries more far away from each other. Furthermore, set each script for each AI with <i>its own location</i> (I forgot to edit that).
