This is the primary reason I HATE Internet Explorer. I absolutely DETEST the thing. Half of my CSS stylesheets are hacks just to make IE render the page correctly. For Mozilla/Firefox, I can just give it padding, margin and border and all will be fine in the land of CSS. In IE, however, it'll take the layout, dice it, burninate it, then spread the ashes over the page and call that rendering. The only thing I use IE for is Windows Update and testing to make sure that my pages render semi-correctly in that abomination of a browser <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

As for plugins, to keep load times down I just use adblock (pwns) and Tabbrowser Extensions. Adblock is awsome, you can block any image/flash/iframe or just block ads.whatever.com or something, since most sites keep all their ads in a subdirectory or domain.

My extensions are the <a href='http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/' target='_blank'>Web Developer Toolbar</a>. Which no web developer or junior HTML hacker should ever be without. Ever.

And the Download Statusbar extension, because I dont like the inbuilt download manager.

I also have Firefox 0.9 and 0.8 installed, along with Opera 7 and 7.5, and Internet Explorer 5 and 6. The only three I use are Firefox 0.9.2, Opera 7.5 (with all caching and such deselected <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> ), and IE 6, for checking how much it breaks websites.

You only need one reason to say firefox is better then IE. Just one. And here it is:

I have had this HD, and this windows install for about 2 months now. Throughout this time I have been using firefox as my default browser. Now while using firefox I have not got a single piece of spyware... And the only time I did was when I was accidentally opening IE to load pages... (and i kept doing this for like two or three days, point is, a very short time) Once I realized I had some spyware on my computer, and realized that I kept accidentally opening IE, I scanned, and happened to have about 30 items of spyware on my computer. gg IE.

Since then I have not got <i>ANY</i>, except for tracking cookies, which if I really wanted I could have firefox just disable. (But then I would lose a lot of functionality).

So yes... I recommend firefox if you want a computer that actually runs well without programs in the background. Internet Explorer likes to slaughter computer's performance.

    --

Now, I have a question. I am running Windows XP, and Windows seems to be having a lot of trouble recognizing firefox as my default browser.

It is my default browser and all, but if I use the Adress Toolbar on my desktop, it opens two browsers to the url I typed, and in one of them it says... <!--QuoteBegin-URL of Site I'm trying to open is here.+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (URL of Site I'm trying to open is here.)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Windows cannot find '<b>URL</b>'. Make sure you typed the mane correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Now I repeat, it does this even though firefox has the page loaded in two seperate windows already.

In AIM if I click a link, it opens one window to the url typed, and then gives me an error message saying <!--QuoteBegin-AOL Instant Messenger (SM)+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (AOL Instant Messenger (SM))</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><b>URL</b>; program not found.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> If I hit ok, it then says: <!--QuoteBegin-Unknown Handler+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Unknown Handler)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Unable to find an application to handle the protocol "http" of the hyperlink you selected.

Please type in the path of the application to handle this url or click the browse button<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
If I put firefox there it doesn't help anything, but mIRC seems to open urls perfectly...

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Yeah, I used to use IE a lot, but then because of all its security holes, it let a virus get installed on my computer. So now I'm a mozilla user.

Psyke, do you have the extension Tabbrowser Preferences? There is an option in that extension for handling external links which may solve your problem.

Make it your default browser. Windows will try and make it much faster to start if it is set as default.

Run <a href='http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=Mozilla+Optimizer&btnG=Google+Search' target='_blank'>Mozilla Optimizer</a>. I hear it speeds it up quite a bit (I made the changes by hand).

Dont install too many extensions or overcomplicated themes. I use two extensions.

No I don't think I do, I'll check into that.

Even more proof that IE sucks the ****:
I just opened it for about less then a minute... loaded msn home and google homepages... noticed some crap programs installing and running themselves... closed IE, opened ad-aware... scan.... 156 new items. -.-'
And just yesterday I had a total of 0.

I mean I was getting spyware so bad I was getting certain ones that were trying to alert me of and close the other ones. -.-

    "virtual bouncer" my ****.

    Frikken lame.

And I don't know what that "MyIE2" is, but as someone just said, I would assume it has the same vulnerabilites and everything as normal IE... If you love IE so much, run Ad-Aware 6.0, and then tell me how much you love IE. -.-

edit: Forgot to mention, the reason I opened IE was to try to test the speed... and it seems to be about equal or slower compared to firefox... so I don't know what you all are complaining about...

Anything to worrisome for a few days of using MyIE2?

Read what I said. READ IT. I'm only getting tracking cookies. After 2 months AdAware says I have 24 tracking cookies... THAT'S IT.

Now before you ask me if I've considered the vulnerabilites, read the above paragraph.

Ok, you've decided to start reading the third paragraph... this is the part where you start back at the top of this post and read what I said again.

If you don't understand yet, die.
