Problem With Metamod

if i get rid of that line in the liblist.gam and replace it with the original, then it works fine. i just go to hlds.exe and start it, then it works. i went to the metamod website, and did what it told me. add the .dll file to addons. then replace the line in the liblist file with gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"
so i did that, but when i start it up, it looks like its going to work, but then gives me that error and shuts down.
any help guys?
