1. I see ppl who empty a pistol clip ridiculously fast like it was fully automatic at a skulk. Is there some trick to this or is it via illegal methods? I hear the accusations of script but the player then claims something along the lines of "if you hold the crosshair over a target without moving it off the target and fire it fires faster and faster"..... whats the deal?

2. When you select an attack whe nauto-help is on a description of the attack and the damage rating of the attack pops up on the screen. For example for skulk bite it says someting like 70 damage? However when you actually bite a marine it takes a different number of Health Points...for example from 100 hp 25 amor to 75 hp 0 armor...why is this? because armor points take more damage?

3. Bunny hopping...is it the same as it was in CS? and i never really learned it in cs cuz it was nerfed in 1.4...so whats the deal with ns?

4. When i walk backwards its alot slower than walking forward as a marine...is there any trick/console command to enhance this? I see marines moving backwards fast enuff to stay out of range of a no upgrade skulk...but this could be just because they are using recoil from a skulk bite.

5. General suggestions on how to move all savvy like as a marine ...especially when being attacked...should you jump? or does this slow you down? strafe jump? jump in circles?

6. On ns maps should you get upgrades as a skulk ever?

7. Is redemption ever good/ok?

8. when a building is recycled do you regain the purchase price of the building or a fraction of the original purchase price?

9.What tricks/buttons do you use while flying to fly smoothlyand not run into the ceiling or drop to the ground to fast when you try and avoid the ceiling...and maneuvar amazingly while flying. Do you tap the jump button? strafe keys? something similar to bhopping? just JP tips.

10. An observatory reveals cloaked objects correct? Does this include revealing objects cloaked via a sensory chamber? they are both buildings so which one wins?

Welcome to ns and the forums please enjoy your stay.

    Multiple ways to do this.
1)Most people jsut click the mouse that fast.
2)Bind the mouse wheel to +attack and roll the mouse wheel.
3)If either of those don't work you can use a pistol script. Akthoguht these are frowned upon by some.

Armor takes more damage then health does. For marines 1 armor = 2hp. Aliens it is dependant on the number of hives.

In NS you can bunnyhop only as aliens though. Marines cannot.

Moving backwards is slower as marines. If you jump at the time of the bite you will fly back fast.

Don't jsut hold space bar as it kills your fuel and hungry skulks await for fall. Use the jetpack as a jumppack. To fly fast in a line jump at a 45 degree angle and at the peak of the jump gun the jetpack.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->10.     Yes. The observatory uncloaks SC cloaking.

    Again happy wishes for you.

    2. For aliens: at 1 hive, 1 ap = 2 hp; at 2 hives, 1 ap = 2.5 hp; at 3 hives, 1 ap = 3 hp. Whether you are a marine or alien, you will always run out of armor before running out of health.

4 & 5. Currently, when a marine is in the air and they get bit/swiped, they are thrown backward. However, this is being fixed in the next version (so that the knockback will be similar whether or not the marine jumps).

    6. I usually don't bother with upgrades as a skulk. I would rather save the 2 res per life for something else. Then again, if you can use an upgrade well, it may be worth it. However, defense upgrades are rarely worthwhile for a skulk, and that is usually what is placed first.

    7. Most people agree that redemption needs to be changed/replaced, since it is almost never better than carapace and regeneration. On a gorge, it can be useful, but even as a gorge it depends on the situation. (It could be useful if you plan on bile bombing an electrified marine rt and it is likely that marines will respond, so that carapace and regen couldn't possibly save you.)

    8. You get 80% of the res back if the building hasn't been completely built yet. Otherwise you get 40%.

Upgrades as skulks depends on loads of things.

For example if they have shotguns getting carapace is DEFINITELY worth the 2 res. It gives you a chance to survive that first shot.

If they get SC early on in the game. Cloaking can get you LOADS of kills so its very nice to have <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

If MC is first, silence and cerelity are amazing. So it really depends.

It also depends on how many kills you tend to get as a skulk.

Redemption can be very good with an early onos!

    LMGs vs ONOS and Redempt!

However it is so un-predictable, would usually be too much to risk. Redempt is quite good in combat if you have a spare level cause it doesn't matter so much if it fails.

Redempt fades = BIG no no!

Yeah you have the idea you do a little burst of jp at 45 degree angle then at peak of jump gun it to fly really fast down a hallway. That is only to get places or run away. Otherwise use it like a jump pack so that you are unpredictable and won't run out of gas.

sometimes holding crouch helps as it makes you catch on less things on the ceiling.

    [EDIT]
Just using the JP over time makes it easier to handle.
    2 ways to practice JPing.
1)Join a co_ map and get JP
2)Create your own server and type giveupgrade 38 or 39 one of those will give you a JP. sv_cheats 1 in console then giveupgrade 38 or 39 in console to get the JP.

Question on knockback Do you have to be in air and press backwards when an skulk is attacking on your front to get knockback?

Circle-strafing is a widely understood term, hold forward and a strafe key and rotate the mouse in the opposite direction to maintain your facing (looking at the skulk).

Forgot to add: In general just forget you have a backwards key in combat. It's uselessly slow and you can mimic it's use (going backwards) by turning (roughly) 90 degrees to one direction then using the corresponding strafe key.

When you jump, ducking will improve the length of time you're airborn thus improving the distance of any knockback. Pressing backwards doesn't seem to affect this it seems to have something to do with how far the skulk is away when he lands the bite.

Anyway, I'm hesitant to encourage that because they're changing how knockback works in the next patch. Most marines have learned how to move through intuitive observation of what kept them alive longest.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Whether you are a marine or alien, you will always run out of armor before running out of health.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This is misleading. For most lifeforms armor has been balanced so this happens but it's not a <i>necessary</i> condition. In fact it's entirely possible to die as heavy with armor left if you're getting welded but not medded.

Finally, I wouldn't hesitate to say celerity is the best upgrade in the game.

Assuming you are welded fast enough that you always have armor, it will take 2000 points of damage to kill you with HA, since HA absorbs 95% of damage. That's not a realistic situation.

    1. Thats called a pistol script, and no, it isn't "illegal", but it is frowned on by a lot of people in the NS community. I don't know about what you heard with the crosshair thing. A pistol script changed the way the +attack command works, so when you hit your mouse1 key, or w/e key you have it bound to, you will shoot once, but when you release it, you will shoot again, hence the -attack command. google pistol script and I bet you find something more specfic.

    2. Armor - I don't know the method the programmers use for this, but lets put it this way, higher armor - more chance of living.

    3. Yes, it's different. To BHOP in NS, you need to hold down the crouch key constantly to prevent your skulk from sticking to the ground, and then jump in sideways motions without holding forward. You'll notice yourself to pick up speed if you're doing it right, the jump key must be hit at the precise time each time or you will fall in speed. Some players use the mousewheel and constantly use that while jumping as a skulk, using the method to BHOP, other players use a 3jump script, meaning, instead of jumping once, you'll jump "3" times. You can't actually see yourself jump 3 times in rapid succession, but you won't stick to the ground nearly as much and you'll be able to use the spacebar to BHOP. I guess if you're REALLY good you wouldn't need a 3jump script using the spacebar... but you gotta be super precise to do it consistantly.

    4. Think about this one... humans can't run backwards as nearly as fast as they can running forwards. And nope, no "enhancing trick". You'll have to get used to it.

    5. Hrm... I can't really explain this one to you.

    6. Yes, celerity is nice, so is carpace. If you're a really good skulk and can stay alive, get regeneration instead of carpace. Scent of fear is always nice so you can see people whereever they are. Some people might choose adrenaline if they use leap a lot, some might choose silence if they like to be ninja skulks. Focus is pretty worthless after Marines get armor one in my opinion, so don't bother with it unless you're chamber rushing with it. Cloaking is the same way late in the game, the Marine force will probably have Motion tracking by then. Redemption is just garbage, don't get it, especially for a skulk.

    7. The only time I get Redempion is if I'm a Gorge, and that was before I didn't know how to BHOP. I get Carpace now. Redemption isn't a fullproof defense against a lone marine trying to rape you. So I guess it's OK in certain situations.

    8. A fraction of the purchase price. Don't remember the exact %

    9. I wouldn't know <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> I suck quite bad at maintaining a good pace with the JP.

    10. Observatory wins - if a alien/alien structure is in it's range, it's getting uncloaked, plain and simple, regardless if a Sensory chamber is adding to the cloaking effect.

I was bored so I thought meh, I'll type out my opinons.

    Just something to add.
If you walk backward and starfe you move faster. ( the same while crouching)
And you can move on ladder 2x faster if you look (while on ladder) to the left or right and pressing forward and one of the directions (depending on which side the ladder is)
a small tip that can help you all <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> (one more thing. if you have jp, attaching to the ladder makes you move on it REALLY fast)

Yup, and if you are walking down a hallway and have a flat surface to your side, you can hold strafe towards it and forwards to nearly double walking speed.

Actually, wallstrafing doesn't increase speed by much more than about 50%. Still a very significant speed gain though.

Also, something to note is that, due to its wallwalk ability, this can be done by a Skulk without the presence of a wall. Simply aim downward at about a 45 degree angle and run forward. Don't hold crouch, as it disables wallwalking.

Surely regen would be far better? at least as a disruption. Early Onos with level 3 regen can surely run around chomping res towers and marines at their leisure, never having to stop, and when they do meet a rine, a high regen rate prolly makes the lmg's practically useless.
