Very Strange Problem

Hello

First of all, have patience with me because English is not my first language.

I have a problem. It seems as my ping rises whenever i meet enemys on a map!
It may sound unbelivable, but this is the case for me.
The more enemys and crowded screen, the more ping. Sometimes up to 800.
Facing only one marine in a hallway (I mostly play Alien) is playable but the ping still rises to around 100.

But as soon as there are no enemys, i have a stable ping around 50-60.

Might it be something with the connection then? Well, i have 8mbit Up/1mbit Down ADSL. And as i said, when i am among teammembers, or by myself, the ping is as stable as it can possibly be.

Something with the server your playing on? No, when i jump into a big fight i check my ping and see that my rises to 300 while the others still have exactly the same ping as before.

Maybe the computer then? Well, graphicwise everything is running smoothly all the time, but when i get 600-800 ping its like 3 screens per second. However, it is not the graphic that is slowly updating the screens, but something else that chockes the information... I dont know

My computer:

Amd Xp1800+
512mb RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4200
Win XP

I really hope someone has an idea because i love this game but right now i can only be active as a building Gorge !
No biting action for me ;-[

Chances are, your 'rate' is set wrong. First, open Steam. Click settings, and hit the 'connection' tab. Select whatever your internet connection is, and click OK.

And your english is excellent - If you hadn't stated otherwise, I would believe you spoke it as a first language.

    Thanks for your reply.

I tried that, the setting was on Lan, so i switched to DSL/768. First i thought it was gone, but then i found a server with a big fight, and while everyothers ping stayed around 100, my jumped up to 1000 when engaging hardcore combat with marines... I get the 3 fps, then the next second when im dead and away from the combat scenario the ping instantly turns to 100 again.

    Very strange.. I dont really have a clue what it could be. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sounds like defective RAM. My buddy had the same problem but then with Call of Duty (he playes that only :O). He got new RAM but the problem was still there then he removed his old RAM and the problem was gone... I dunno if this could be the case for you but that's all i know it could be....
