That system shouldn't have too much trouble. I have similar specs with the exception of a 2500+ CPU. Should run the game at a medium-ish setting

    I have:

    Pentium 4 2.4ghz (400mhz FSB)
    80gigs
    512ram DDR(PC3200 - i hope thats good...i dunno)
    Radeon 9200

I guess i'll save up $200 and get myself a 9800 pro and another stick of 512 ram.

You need a GFX card with 512Mb of VRAM for Ultra detail though.

my gf3ti can BARELY BARELY handle the pixel shading, and my athlon 3500+ will make up for any speed deficiencies.

although in august, it may have to be turned down to 3000+ levels for heating issues; in winter ive got a 3700+ <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

(the refridgerant runs at room temperature, and the athlon that thinks it is a 2500+ doesnt like it when the refridgerant is above a hundred farenheit.)

Nonono....see, thats if you DON'T have a sound card. They've known about this for a LOOOOOONG time- supposedly the sound in DOOM3 is supposed to be even better than the Graphics.

But with me having a sound card, it'll make all of it that much better.

Fear the power of the ATI RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2x (I swear, that's what it says in the display properties on the computer upstairs, caps locked and everything).

Aside from that, down here in the dungeon that is my room we've got the 'high quality' ATI Radeon 9200 128mb going on...which does pass the Radeon 8500 or higher part -

but the fact I only have 256 mbs of ram does not.

[but the 500mhz P3 computer upstairs has 384mb...]

? PC Gamer expressly stated that a sound card would not improve it at all, like the game won't even use it if you have one.

Yeah, I'm with Tommy. You read the PC Gamer article, which has an interview with the lead programmer, WHO SHOULD KNOW, and he says all the sound calculations are done on the CPU no matter what card you have.

Except that it doesn't. An 8500 is quite alot better(it was ATi's high end card at one time). The 9200 uses the rv280 core which is very similar to the rv250 core which is a cut back entry level version of the r200 core used by the 8500. It performs somewhere around the fx5200 in most tests.

Doomy that's higher minimum specs than I expected, when talking minimum specs we're talking barely playable, choppy, 640x480, everything that can be turned off turned off here. This game is barely playable on a medium/low end computer?

I'm thinking maybe I should ignore it for a year or two until my next hardware upgrade cycle so I can play it somewhat smoothly. Looking at those specs I don't expect my 9800 pro and 2.4 GHz p4 to be able to play descently on even medium settings.
