oh-em-gee, the nvidia fans are having a freaking party over there.
But we'll still get good FPS in Doom3. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
That card is a damn fine card. It was the Radeon 9800Xt for DX8 games, and it STILL works well. I don't get any chugging at all on modern games. *hopefully not D3 or HL2* But Im hoping to land an x800 before next spring. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Speak for yourself; my GeForce 2 wasn't even [i]listed/[i].
Isn't that the point of a video card?
What are you talking about? The X800 doesn't win anything, and the closest thing to a victory the X800XT-PE got was .3 fps over the lower end Nvidia card.

haha, didnt look at the card names in the tests, oops <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So what, you just looked at the bars and decided that some of them were ATI?

Nobody is going to play DOOM 3 for the multiplayer. That's like Battlefield: Vietnam for the single player. It's there, but meh.
mm.. yeah <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yeah feel free to ignore Doom 3 and the whole load of games that will be built on its engine.
Wouldn't that make you an ATI fanboy, heh.

yeah, feel free to ignore the fact that by the time any significant game that runs on the Doom3 engine comes out, the next gen cards will be here anyway.
Umm don't you think you are letting your fanboyism for ATi to get in the way a little bit? Doom 3 is one of the most anticipated games right next to HL2 and you are saying that it will be boring after 5 minutes of gameplay???
The reviewer for PC Games(I think that was the magazine) said that he was entralled at the level of detail and actually scared just like in the movies. He also said it took him <i>23 hours</i> to complete the game! Thats amazing.
Lets do some math here guys, if I pay 10 bucks for a movie ticket, which the movie will probably be around 2 hours long, that will equal..
= 5bucks/1hr (5 bucks per hour)
Now if I buy Doom(I believe retail is selling at $55 dollars) and I play JUST the single player all the way through that will be..
= 55bucks/23hrs = 2.39bucks/1hr
Thats already beaten a regular scary movies value per hour by double.
Now your telling me it's going to be boring after 5 mins of gameplay. When you do play the game, please tell me that again after you have played at least a couple hours WITHOUT the mindset that it is gonna suck.

Read my post before you start slinging around words like fanboy. I don't ever recall seeing the words ATI, nVidia, or HL2. So stop putting words in my mouth. I think Doom3 will have gameplay which will get old real fast. Thats my opinion. I'm entitled to it.

Ok answer me this one question and I will shut my mouth. What video card do you have in your computer and/or if you are planning on buying a video card within the next 3 months what video card will it be?
It won't get boring, that much I promise you.

Again, stop trying to be a condescending troll, trying to put words in my mouth. My graphics card has absolutely nothing to do with how I think Doom 3's gameplay is going to be. As Quanaut said, they aren't trying for anything innovative, they're going for a 'shock' factor. Quite frankly I would rather play an innovative game than a game that goes 'look at me, I made headline news and **** off soccer moms, but other than that theres nothing new about me'. Graphics? Big deal. One year from now games are going to look like Doom 3, and there will be games that look better.
I don't like buying games. If I buy Half Life 2, I will get access to dozens of free modifications, and may even get to work on a team making one of those mods.
If you're going to buy Half Life 2, you're essentially getting access to hundreds of dollars in free games. That's why ATI went with Valve over iD. CS Source (even though I hate CS) will be a huge sensation all on its own. Many, many people will be buying video cards based on CS Source.
You could actually say that Half Life 2 is the most anticipated game of all time due to the millions who are going to buy it for full access to CS Source.
Buying Doom 3 and arguing that you are going to be prepared for all of the games built off of its engine is waving a big, red flag over your head that says "I'm going to waste my money actually buying games left and right."
Most big titles are rehashes of tried and true ideas. The great thing about the free mods of Half Life is that they have inspired so much creativity in gaming. So many of the future game companies around the world are being started through games like Natural Selection. That's what I'm investing in. Better games for the future.
And with that investment, I'll probably be buying an ATI card.
[edit] Oh yea, video cards don't effect my choice of games. Everyone knows I'm getting all the new big-name FPSs [/edit]
