Motherboard Help

I have a Dell Dimension 8200, and the default motherboard that came with it, but i have no idea what the specs/model of that motherboard are.

I'm planning on replacing it, but I don't know what to replace it with until i know the specs.
So basically, how do you find out data about your motherboard.

And i've been looking at some boards, but none of them seem to have the right amount of PCI/AGP slots, or support RDRam. All i know about my current mobo is that it has 4 PCI slots, 1 AGP 4X and 4 RDRam slots.

    As far as PCI slots, etc. You dont necessarily need to find another mobo with 4 PCI slots. Most come with 5. As long as it would fit in your case, it should be ok if you have an extra one <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    RDRAM really isn't used anymore, so you'll be hard-pressed finding a new motherboard that supports it. You'll probably have to go DDR unless you want other components held-back just for compatibility with your ram.

    What is the socket? i keep hearing about it, but I have no idea what it is

    Socket is the actual socket on the motherboard that the CPU fits into. You need the same kind of cpu socket and cpu (same number and orientation of pins) in order for it to fit. You have a Socket 478 CPU, so if you want to upgrade your motherboard but continue to use your CPU, you'll need to find another socket 478 motherboard.

    Also, you're not going to find an RDRAM motherboard in most stores, considering RDRAM is no longer manufactured (it was less than successful). Best bet is to spend a few hundred on a gig of DDR SDRAM, or search around on ebay/newegg for an RDRAM motherboard.

    SDRAM?
    I'm more likely to go for DDR2

    And i'll be changing my CPU anyway, so socket looks like it won't matter as much

    DDR is just a type of SDRAM <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
