Mx500 And Skipping

Fl4THeAdFl4THeAd Join Date: 2003-07-30 Member: 18587Members
I have an mx500 with no mouseware drivers installed. Sometimes when I jerk my mouse, it skips and the cursor halts its movement for a second. Any ideas about the cause?

Note: I have a old fabric mousepad.

Try with / without a mousepad. Optical mice can be finicky about the surface their on.

Explain "jerk your mouse". I had the same thing on a different mouse when i moved it from side to side really fast and the mouse stops and then works after a second. I send it back and got a new one that was working.

Same problem here, sometimes in fade, if there is 3 or 4 rines, fps drops and mouse block :o . Very strange and boring ..

    PS : mx310

I've tried the fabric mouse pad, and my wood desk, the same thing happens.

    Jerk, as in:
I'm playing a game, I go through a door and look fast to the right corner, and then wip around and look at the left corner.

Get a USB->PS/2 converter (If you're using USB) and see if that helps. PS/2 is usually better, for mice.

Yes. This happened to me before. I would be playing an FPS and my mouse would wack out. My mousepad is black/silver and the mouse freaked out when I moved it fast. Try it without the mousepad, or if you dont mind some mess, put down an piece of plain white computer paper and use that.

There's no difference between PS2 and USB for me. Would a good mousepad fix it?

Even a cheap one will do. Optical mice work by taking pictures of the surface and then checking to see what is different. As long as you have a mousepad with a varied pattern, it will work fine.

    1 word, mousepad!

I had the same prob when i got it, i was originally using it on a bare wood surface, just stick a mousepad under it and its good!

I used to have the same problem with my old mouse.... the problem is your tracking speed on your mouse and the surface your useing i am guessing. I do not know what the tracking speed is on the mx500 but i got a mouse with double the tracking power of my old mouse and had no more problems with my mouse jumping like that. if you dont want to get a new mouse get a new pad, one with highly vibrant and /or varying colors supposably and the mouse pads like

<a href='http://www.xtracpads.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.xtracpads.com/</a> (heard good things about these)

<a href='http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1639' target='_blank'>http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=1639</a> (never saw a review on this one)

also the xtrac eels are suppose to making useing your mouse a bit easier in game

Well maybe if you tried cutting back on the frequency of your jerks. Or just stop jerking altogether.
