My New Ipod Product Idea

ipod usb key
I have noticed while browsing other online forums that more and more people are using the iPod as a high-capacity USB key. I know that on the set of some movie (can't remember the name) they used the iPod to transfer the day's "shorts" to and from computers on the set. This is an excellent idea, except you have to carry around a long cord in order to do this. So what I have done is created a shorter USB-Key type connector that connects the iPod to USB without the long cord. This would be small enough to put in your pocket and more convenient than a long connecting cord. Let me know if you think this is a stupid idea or you've heard it before.

Here is a primitive design made in Paint:

The connector is on the bottom

I use my iPod to move stuff to my upstairs computer, but USB is so sloowww

    Firewire ftw!

I could always do a FireWire version of this thing too.

The iPod is a little heavy to be attached like that, it would probably break either the connecting key, the iPod dock or the USB port. Also, imo, the cable is sufficient.

    Problem:
most of us don't have firewire/usb ports on the fronts of our computers, instead we have em in the back.

thus little tiny coard = no good.

Same problem with if they are in the front, you will just have your IPod dangling from the coard (big nono)

Personaly what do I do when I am swaping stuff via USB?
leavea USB extension cord pluged in

Does the iPod have a special connector, or is is a standard mini USB? If so, they have extendable cables that fit in your pocket...

it looks to be a 'Dock connector' (via the sys specs of it)

so it is probably an iPod only connection (though it goes directly to either USB or FireWire I tihnk)
