Gates Interested in Nintendo
Will the big N ever consider a proposal?
August 04, 2004 - Bill Gates is still very much interested in purchasing Nintendo, according to German financial magazine WirtschaftsWoche. The publication quotes gates as saying, "if Hiroshi Yamauchi phones me, I will pick up at once."
Granted, that can mean a great many things. But Gates went on to say that if Yamauchi expressed interest he would present Nintendo's former president (and largest shareholder) with an offer immediately. This wouldn't be the first time Gates has publicly announced his desire to acquire Nintendo, which retains its status as the most successful business in the games industry.
Gates courted both Nintendo and Sega just before announcing its entry in the console market two years ago. In fact, the decision to launch the Xbox may stem from Microsoft's inability to buy either Nintendo or Sega. But will Yamauchi ever consider? Will a union between Nintendo and Microsoft ever occur?
Considering Nintendo's position, it seems unlikely. We'll keep you posted on all the latest buzz<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
This seems strange. It's just to make more money.. I doubt that this will happen. Nintendo has been around for longer than Microsoft has.. I think.. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

And yes, the big N has been around longer than microsoft. Much longer. Nintendo is actually over a hundred years old! They made playing cards before video games.

Playing cards? I never knew that..
The only thing I liked about Nintendo was Duck Hunt and Ocarina Of Time
Yeah... windows-itis. Symptoms include ridiculously high prices, monthly fees, and a product that doesn't actually work.
...So yeah. Windows-itis.
Evil + Nintendo = Evil children games.
I can already see the slogan: "Games for Brats -Where do You Want to Go Today?" <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Last I checked, that wasn't the point.
Thing is, I still think Windows ain't half bad(your probably on it! hahahaha!)
And one thing I've noticed about Microsoft in the games area: Their top-notch games(that are actually good games) get lots and lots of publicity. They make sure of it.
Thus, all the incredibly good games that Nintendo gets but get no publicity(unlike their base titles, which so far imho have sucked total ****) would get publicity, and maybe get recognized. WHICH MEANS MORE GOOD GAMES.
You fail to realise that all the good Nintendo developers would walk if Microsoft took over, making really really bad games. It happened with Rare and a few important people from Bungie. For example Jason Jones, Alex Seropian, Greg Kirkpatrick etc.
[/Edit] All in all you have not really made any good points.

So a few important folk left.
THEY STILL MADE/(are making) GOOD GAMES.
Frankly, even though I'm going to become a dev, I DON'T GIVE A RATS BUM ABOUT HOW THE DEVS FEEL. I WANT A GOOD GAME!
NO one would be into games if it was for how the devs feel. Halo would have ended up the same frickin way whether people left or not. It didn't change a thing.
I doubt that better games would come out.. Things would still have to be translated. Think of the controller!
Agreed. You know, I never had a big grudge against Windows or anything, but if they do purchase Nintendo, I'll probably move to Linux.
It's not that Microsoft is bad, it's just that Nintendo is 5 million times better. I grew up with Sega and Nintendo. With Sega gone, it's like half of what I love about gaming is gone. If Nintendo goes under, well, it's up to PC alone to make up for it. But PC and console feel completely different. And they should.
Arg, I'm rambling, point is, Nintendo > Microsoft, if Nintendo dies, so do consoles...
...Unless Sony can pull good 1st party games out of a hat, but I don't see that happening.
I don't think Nintendo would ever sell itself to Microsoft, anyway.
Nintendo's profits are raising at alarming rates, and as long as Nintendo is around console gaming will be around. 2-3 years ago I might have agreed with you, but today I would guess that PC gaming is declining if anything, and console gaming is exerianceing one of the biggests booms since atari made consoles...
Damn you Gates! Damn you!
very well put ! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Thank god most of the good developers from Rare left and formed Free Radical Design, then made timesplitters <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
