A Simple Mod Idea: Bravo Team

<div class="IPBDescription">DOOM 3</div> Well, maybe not <i>that</i> simple...

Basically, we've all heard about "Bravo Team" in DOOM 3. The team you keep trying to catch up with.

Now, I don't know just yet what the hell happens to them, if they die, or whatever. I don't care- I'll find out soon enough, but even if they do die, this could work simply as a thing where everything happened differently.

Basically, its a co-op mod, where you ARE Bravo Team. I'm suspecting a 4-6 man team, with all new levels, also with levels that branch out, many different directions, using the cube limitations as much as possible.

As for gameplay dynamics, their simple: Everyone gets the standard weapons from DOOM 3. They'll be balanced a bit just so not everyone will use the same weapon, though its not forced in any way- its the players choice if he wants to use the shottie, or assault rifle, chaingun, whatever.

Other than that, the only gameplay dynamics would be being able to give ammo to other players(while one man CAN have all the ammo, I'm thinking of slowing down reload times a lot so that it'd be smarter just to ration ammo to your other teammates to keep you all alive), and that unless you are the only player on the server, you MUST use medpacks on other members of the squad, so people end up supporting eachother.

The only thing this would really need is a bit of coding for the monsters to recognize several players, a co-op ability at all, and a LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT LOT of scripting.

This is just a idea pitch- I plan on learning the DOOM 3 level editor and may make something for this, but otherwise, its a "Whatever" thing, and I'd just hope that others would like the idea too, maybe someone to pick up on it and run with it.

    Sounds like a good idea.

Perhaps thier should be an "Alien Swarm"-esque setup screen before each mission?

IE. One person is the heavy gunner, etc.

The idea sounds like fun. I would comment further but I have no idea of how much effort Doom 3 maps are gunna take, because I've decided Im not going to start playing with the editor until I've beaten the game, that way I can look through all their maps without spoiling anything for myself.

    Sounds interesting. Co-op is fun. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/style_images/TSA_Skin-975/icon6.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

When I get Doom 3, I'll be playing around with the editor, and if I like it, I'll probably help out.

what about just setting up co-op for single player maps, then adding more monsters in, so you dont have to remap the whole game.

Hmm, could be quite fun in a blueshift / opfor kind away. A different view on the same events.

Although one part would suck. Highlight between the spoiler tags if you want to know.

you could keep is scary with not nessasarily more monsters but make it so tha thte layout of the map takes the squad into plenty of great ambush zones. Have the demons come from the ceiling as well as the front and behind, all at the same time. In single player they tend to ration out when the demons are sent at you, in this case you can have them just swarm.

Athena already presented that idea(I first pitched it to her), and I told her I *really* didn't want it like that, because then whatever class someone doesn't like, they would have to be if the others were already chosen. With this, you can have everyone be assault, medic, whatever. Or you can spread about use amongst yourself.

And being that blah blah blah happens(thanks esuna), we could just say that while this does follow those events, that maybe there would be a way thats REALLY REALLY HARD to actually change the outcome and have blah blah blah not happen.

And as to 666, I *want* to have whole 100% new levels, so just changing the SP over co-op isn't going to happen. I wouldn't expect the mod to be as long of course, I was thinking maybe an hour total(but note- this would be VERY VERY VERY hard, being it'd all have to be on 1 map, and have others added later).

I'd go on about where I want this going, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Well, is anyone interested in helping? I'm not actually going to start work on it until I get some info from a few places, but once I do get that info, and finally get radiant to work well, I'll become a mappin fewl.

and umm, take it easy on the "ok more monsters in this room shoot em up find sumthin and well go shoot em up in the next room"

most people that play this would probobly have played the sp mode long enough to know how freakin repeditive it gets

also... theres another team working on a coop mode, its not about bravo though and theres only 2 players... just thought id say that incase you didnt know

    edit: i are english speak

well i dont know much about mapping, but from just looking at the levels, it would seem very hard to remake that doomish feel in user made maps, unless you could find a really good mapper that can work magic with lighting.

Right. Or more of something where your fighting on a team vs. AI opponents.

...and actually, with how repetitive it gets, thats why I'd want it to be HEAVILY scripted, you know? I was thinking something along the lines of like 3 bosses throughout it, and have those be the incredible, fun things.

I like Doom 3's SP gameplay... repetetive it may be, but it remains fun the whole time. I am saddened that people don't like old-skool gameplay anymore.

    <span style='color:red'>SPOILER</span>

Anyways, since we know that Bravo team dies, you could just call them Charlie Team or something.
