Warhammer 40,000

Dawn of War Open Beta! og!
Oh snap! So I got my key and I went in because I was on the closed beta waiting list... so they just auto emailed me mine when open started. I really need some other noobs to play against, I kind of suck.
In order to not make this thread useless, I'm gonna throw in a link to the beta sign-up page (you might want to hurry, they're almost full), and post a nice screenshot of me (with a nifty Brotherhood of Steel symbol on my soldier's arms, which I added) testing out weapons and wargear with a friend from the Red Orchestra community...
His angsty Chaos Marines were no match for my Terminator's power claws and heavy boltguns. Trust me. Those three things died to those squads right there. I rock. There's my apothecary there, in the white. My colors are a dark teal (you could say turquoise) and white.
EDIT: Needs more picture, commander! Here you are.

I'm not a fan of betas, but I'll definatly check it out come the offical release. Warhammer rox.
Wish I could play it. But my video card doesn't support it (too old). Sux0r.

But dont worry, when the real game is released, the gamecode will be more sorted out and will more likely run a hell lot more faster.
For those who have it i hope to see you on there. Im Gigashadow on there.
Setup a server where its 3Players vs 3 Hard AI. Now thats a challenge! And iv only done it once.
Actually at the moment i have discovered hardly ANY glitches, it looks like its almost complete already, heh. One thing i really like is that the AI isnt laid back and dumb (like c+c games), this AI on Hard leaves no room for mistakes and does its best to wipe the floor with you, and it doesnt slow down half way thru the game (like c+c games). The AI permanently tries to 'overkill' you from the beginning of the game to the end.
Graphics, very impressive but big armys will slow ur comp and maybe crash it if its not up to spec. Great zoom feature to get into the detail and action. But i would like to see a free camera angle that lets you move it left and right so you can really jump into those battle scenes like your really there.
Sound, lotsa voices and signals that all beings use 'Fall back!', 'Faith is our Shield!'.
Sooo much sound your unlikely to hear the same thing over and over again.
Easy to use, Yup, but you have to get fast to keep up ^_- wiv the pros or hard AI.
Single Player, the beta is totally online, however i hope they plan to have a single player game on its release. Dah dah dah dah daaaah...im luvin it!
My comp runs it slow in the heavy battle scenes yet i have the latest Radion card and 3ghz processor. I think when its officially released it will have more graphical and gfx card support for earlier models. I also think that when the gamecode is more tidy it will process more quicker and finer allowing the gfx card to reach its maximum capability.
Mebbe voice talk on there? Just kidding ^_^ the game takes up enuf bandwidth. They need to reduce that, and i think that making teams with the F# keys will reduce bandwidth takeup. Or Autoteam features.
Great game cant wait to see the completed one! I thinks its looking like a 2-CD release with the single player. (if one)
Kenichi's overall mark: 91/100
The worst thing though was the fact they spelled the names of some of the chapters and such wrong. I don't know if they've changed since i used to play WH40K, but it's Goff not Coff, World Eaters nor World Bearers, Evil Sunz not "Speed Freaks", Blood Angels not Blood Ravens, etc etc etc.
Fileplanet = Satan.
i can never get above 100kbps. Ever
About WH40k, though, I'd have to say it's your average RTS. Build lots of units. Throw at enemy. Build more units. Throw at enemy. Expand Base. Build advanced units. Throw at enemy. I'm waiting for Rome:Total War. The res gathering is really boring, too. Basically cap nodes, and build generators to get Req. points and power. The squad system is a nice touch, and I like being able to customize the number of people in it, build a Sarge, and customize the weapons being used. However, the rest of the game just plays like a prettier version of Starcraft. A worthy download, but probably not worth the 50 bucks.
Docchimpy's Score: 66/100.

I believe they're all offshoot chapters of the "real deal"
Which I suppose explains the lack of Death Company
Mr. Grand H. Poobah (of Lemon Tree, Milton Keynes, England) has just signed up for the beta. (:
I don't see the "Satan" in it.. besides the wait lines maybe.
Second, Speed Freakz are the name of vehicle heavy Ork armies now. The clan system is almost entirely gone in terms of rules.
Although you are right thats it should be Goff. GG typos, but when has any written GW product ever been proof read...
As for the game... meh. You can do things like expand squads and equip them with heavy weapons but in the end it doesn't matter. The time and money you spent making your squad special and better could be spent simply making 3x as many squads and just pulverize them.
The beta kinda sucks. They give you less then a demo to playtest. They don't even allow us a skirmish mode.

Wow, it's been some time since i played WH40K, but i find it odd that they scrapped some of my old favourites.
I mean, come on, Speed Freakz? Evil Sunz all the way, and as we all know, red wunz go fasta.
I have. The Lesbians, Pretty Boys, Big Girlies. All pink.

The AI is not that hard to beat, you just need to expand quickly and set up blockades at chokepoints.
Oh and Relic have asked that screenshots dont be posted during the beta.
Several things EEK. You'll be wishing you'd added some missle launchers to that squad when they bring along the heavy vehicles, and why should they include a skirmish mode? Its a beta to balance and fix bugs. Why would you need a skirmish mode for that?

One word - Dreadnaughts. 2 Dreadnaughts can stop about 5000 Orc forces, and pulvierze their crappy vehicles as well. Put a force commander with them and drop an orbital strike or three when you need it.
As for skirmish mode - it might surprise you but the vast majority of RTS players don't play RTS games online. Relic themselves said that. Hell read the forums. They thought that by making it online beta, they'd attract online RTS gaming crowds, but there's a ton of people that say they haven't and won't play online.
Finally, why not? They have the tutorial which is sorta a skirmish...

I hate to say it but thats true on the tabletop game too, mainly because orks cost next to nothing points wise due to their low armour and low damage/accuracy etc. This makes them measly at long range but in clsoe combat it means that there overwhelming numbers (due to their low cost) tend to gain better results, whereas a dreadnaught costs a fair amount in points and has an increadable amount of armour and heavy weapondry.

Last i heard this is a beta to optimise net-code and get balance issues for player-to-player combat out of the way. The tuturial is there so people at least have an idea of what they're doing before they charge headlong into online games.
It was in the install EULA....
Really now? I tend to see the Kan get ripped in half by a heavy laser.

You mean lasscannon right? And that is DESIGNED to do heavy damage to heavy armour.
I owned all 3, due to that wonderful 40 point option.... the Missile Launcher. Why do not more people take this lovely thing?
