<div class="IPBDescription">NS is the only game steam cant run</div> on further inspection, TFC doesnt work, i get a cannot open halflife.wad message.
I have just reinstalled b1, b4 and b4a in the correct manner, rebooted steam and been greeted by the same message.
PRELOADER ERROR:
Win32 Structured Exception at 2010D6E4: Attempt to read from virtual address 39769192 without appropriate access rights.
then I can browse NS games, but when i try to join one, "This game is currently unavliable, please try again at another time".
Time has nothing to do with this.
its been doing this for 2 weeks and im rather annoyed that the only game i ever play is now broken for some unknown reason which i cant only chalk up to steam being crap.
PLEASE HELP.

I thought earlier TFC was working, but it will only go as far as the loading screen, then it tell me halflife.wad cannot open.
so steam doesnt work at all, just NS works even less then other games.
it realy sounds like you should try and compleatly reinstall steam....

2) Play HL atleast Once via Steam (just booting up the training mission will do).
3) Download these 3 files:
ns_install_v3_b1.exe
ns_v30_b4_patch.exe
ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe
4) Install NS V3.0 Beta 1 (ns_install_v3_b1.exe) (This should auto install to steam\steamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp, if it does not, move the NSP folder there).
5) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4 (ns_v30_b4_patch.exe) (point this at steam\steamApps\your@email\Half-Life\ do NOT include the NSP).
6) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4a (ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe) (See * at bottom).
7) Search your Hard drive(s) for folders named nsp.
8) If you have more than one you messed up. Goto Step 3.
If you folow these steps properly you will not get client.dll or map.bsp errors.
If you are positive you have folowed them corectly then redownload the installer form a different location.
*There aslo seems to be a bug with, atleast some of, the 4a installers. Try pointing it at steamApps\your@email\ instead of steamApps\your@email\half-life

<b> Slightly More Advanced Steps</b>
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->1) Search your Hard drive for ns and nsp.
2) Deleate all folders named that.
3) Start from step 3 in my guide.
4) Make sure you are using the properly named files for each step, the file name is listed with the step.
5) Make sure you point each file at the place listed with the step
5a) The first one should auto install with no choice of destination
5b) The second one goes to: Steam\SteamApps\your@email\Half-Life
5c) The 3rd should probably go to Steam\SteamApps\your@email\
6) After each install step in my guide (steps 4, 5 and 6) search your hard drive for nsp
6a) If you find only one folder, and it is located at Steam\SteamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp then you are good to go.
6b) If you have only one nsp but it is some where else, move it to that location.
6c) If you have 2 nsp folders, then move the one that is not in that location, over writing all files when prompted.
6d) Each time you move an nsp folder search your hard drive again for nsp to double check.

He certainly can if the ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe happens to be slighly corrupted and if it doesn't calculate and compare either a CRC or message diggest hash with one it has stored somewhere in the file(which I don't think it does).

That sounds somewhat like the halflife GCF file got corrupted since TFC has to read from the HL directory....or any mod reads the directory for that matter
Try reinstalling Steam and HL. It might fix said problem.
