<div class="IPBDescription">OMGOMGOMG</div> Alright, I had heard about these "Quad Xeon" processors before and I just thought how awesome it would be to have one. Not for NS, becasue this servers potential would be wasted on a low-end game such as this (Please dont kill me, NS is a great game).
Here are the specs for this beast:
Four Intel Boxed Xeon MP CPUs w/ 3-level cache
Super Micro 8042 platform
Integrated L2 and L3 cache
Built-in IO: 1 NIC, 2 serial, 1 parallel, 2 PS/2 and 2 USB ports
32gb PC2100 DDR SDRAM, Registered ECC, 16 DIMMs
Adaptec 2200S U320 RAID controller, 64mb cache, 2 channels
Seagate 146gb Cheetah ST3146807 Ultra320 SCSI drive, 10K RPM
2nd HD: Seagate 73gb Cheetah 15K.3 ST373453 U320 SCSI drive, 15K RPM
3rd HD: Seagate 73gb Cheetah 15K.3 ST373453 U320 SCSI drive, 15K RPM
4th HD: Seagate 73gb Cheetah 15K.3 ST373453 U320 SCSI drive, 15K RPM
24X ATAPI CD-ROM drive
ATI Rage XL PCI graphics card w/ 8mb
1.44mb floppy drive
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
Built-in 100BaseTX network card
Netgear GA621 fiber gigabit ethernet card, 64bit PCI
SuSE Linux Openexchnage Server 4.1
MS Windows XP Professional installed for multi-boot, w/ CD/docs

I dunno about you guys but to me that looks like it's contradicting itself (or maybe I'm just an idiot <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).
32Gb seems a bit overkill though. How much would this server cost?
first came ram
then came sdram
then came ddr sdram
now we have secksi dual channel ddr sdram
I wouldn't mind having that much. I'd just somehow rig it to load the entire windows2000 install to RAM lol
Serously, though... with at much ram.. is there any utilities to partition RAM into a pseudo hard drive? That would make games and stuff load super fast.

Wouldn't it essentially do that anyways? dump all the data and transfer nearly instantly?

ramdrive (ramdrv).
Eh what`? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

you don't buy servers for their awesome graphics, yo.

ramdisk anybody <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
32GB isn't overkill for a 3DSMax (I managed to have it need 26 GB with one modifier), but for a game server? Yoikes. But its only PC2100, when it COULD be PC3700. Hard disk space is a little low too. I have more space than that on my desktop...
And WTH is with the sound card? You could be using that PCI slot for something like an extra RAID card to add even more hard drives, or some other overkill device <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Silence. Seriously, theres a company called SW Technology based out of Richardson, Texas that lets you customize your own Quad Xeon server.

i don't think they make 2gb sticks of pc3700.
2 more GB of RAM than my HD.. BAAAH
Other than the tongue twisting, what's contradictory about "Dual Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory"?
I wish I had 32 Gig's of ram :o
