I have a strange problem which causes my internet to go off every 5 minutes or so so ill be brief. We just moved into a new apartement and I wanted to have cable in my room so we had it done from the living room throguh the wall. Now the problem is that the internet idint work. I tried removing the thingo that splits it into 2 and then it only works briefly and rarely. I called the ISP dudes and they just said that it'll take a day or two to come have a look at, but its cheaper to find the problem myself.
Suggestions anyone?

Hmm.. are you on Telstra [Australia]? We have similar problems, and they're really really annoying. Nothing we do makes it better, and Telstra has horrible [re: HORRIBLE] customer service. They can't tell a hat from a shoe.

so it didnt work at all with the router? and it flickers without the router? hmmm. i have cox cable, and i had a similar problem where i would lose internet every few minutes, it would just drop to zero connect for about 10 seconds. i called up the customer service and talked to the guy and he fidgetted with it and i ended up unplugging everything a couple times and plugging it back in, while he was doin whatever he was doin, and that fixed it.

sounds like you have a weak signal.

your ISP shouldn't charge you anything (unless it is parts) for fixing a faulty instilation. And they are probably the only ones that can do much.

It could be that ur cable modem might be going bad as well, thus cuaseing a weak single, thus it cutting off, i think u should check the router and the cable modem, if had a simliar prob in the past with a buddy.

I had a similar problem until I got a better splitter. Something about not being rated properly. Best of all, the cable repair guy gave it to me for free!

These things are dirt cheap, and with out it you can't actualy use their service, and thus they just lost a customer <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
