    And watch all your 3rd party applications crash and burn!

    This is of course because they were un-secure P.O.S's

    SP2 is great, but it breaks so much stuff <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Why should we download a 300 meg file that has known problems if we can wait a few days for the smaller optimized home pc version?

    It's Microsoft replacing bad things with more bad things.

    They fix security bugs by breaking features, and fix the features that were broken in the previous service pack/release by introducing more security bugs. Vicious cycle really.

    Mods, please dont lock this for talking about cd key legality. this has been a hot issue all over the internet because the number of illegal cd keys is an extremely high percentage.

    in fact microsoft was afraid that the wonderful new sp2 security enhancements shouldnt only go to the people with legal keys. their security holes have allowed the creation of so many spambot worm viruses these days, and everyone knows that these patches are crucial. a few months ago microsoft was going to allow the sp2 to anyone with any key because of the good it would do for their image to reduce the worm viruses. now it seems theyve changed it to not allow any bad cd keys, and they think they can blame all future wom viruses on "pirates."

    also, the enormous avaliability of xp sp2 over bittorrent is questionably legal, because MS has sole rights to distribute this product, and it is in violation of the EULAS to redistribute it as the torrent trackers are doing.

    Micro$oft can cry me a river, if they want to overcharge and stop supporting the user than we can just migrate to linux. Either way they lose, but lose more with Linux.

    Soo... does anyone have a solid verdict on whether I should install this or not?
  • ZelZel Join Date: 2003-01-27 Member: 12861Members
    sp2 has MUCH better wifi support; and a MUCH stronger firewall. it also forces automatic updating.

    if youre goign to go sp2 then you have to trust to apply every update as it comes out, be they good or bad. (WMP 10.0 = bad thing, virus patch=good thing)

    Methinks it's time to start using Linux more often...

    I have a feeling this will be locked...*sigh*

    Anyways, I think I'm going to stay clear of this until I find out how it works.

    Due to the numerous facets of illegality, that's quite correct, Mullet.
