Yes. Your CPU might be okay, but the GFFX 5200 is a bargain-basement card.

If you can, grabbing an AthXP 2500+ or 2700+ would probably be a good idea, as would bumping your RAM to a full gig. It's not that expensive.

As for playing D3 and HL2 at 1024x768, assuming 'medium' detail settings, you'll probably want an R9800 Pro at the very least, or an X800 XTPE if you can splurge... as it's so very worth it.

Meh, A 9800 pro will do high detail no problem.

Amd 2000+ = Pentium 2 ghz. Clock speed is irrelevant because AMD's are more efficient and pretty much run as stated in comparison.

It's a 1.6 Ghz processor.

EDIT: 1.675 to be even more accurate

AMD 64 bit 3200 (for example) is the same as a P4 3.2

1.67 to be more accurate. I have te same CPU.

Anyway, I have allmost the same system, except I have 512 megs of RAM and an ATi Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb card.

It was the Low budget card at the time, I'd guess that the 5200 is about the same.

Anyway, at 800x600 at medium I get about 30 FPS on an ATI card, and Nvidia apparently rund D3 better, so yea... You should be ok to go.

question: how important is ram?
is 512mb enough? (that's what I have now)

512 Mb is becoming the "recommended" setting for most games, which means that the game will stutter when there is a lot of action. Since average PC is a few years old, that is where the game-makers will quite likely aim:

~1,5 GHz
~512 Mb RAM
~128 Mb Vid.card

I know this because my comp is a few years old and all the new games have specs like this in 'recommended.' So to play the newest ones with ?ber-ultra settings without any kind of stuttering, you'll prolly need:

~3.0 GHz
~1024 Mb RAM
~256 Mb Vid.card

Of course, these are just numbers to give some hunch of what to buy. With the first system you will probably fare pretty well at least the next 3 years, after which the latter system will replace it as a medium.
