Decompiling Tanith

titaniumtitanium Join Date: 2003-10-31 Member: 22166Members
i'm attempting to decompile tanith and i'm having problems.

winbsp crashes while decompiling.

bsptwomap decompiles fine but the resulting file crashes hammer, both with and without the -xpcagey flag.

what can i use to get a working decompiled version of tanith?

i'm making a practice map for shooting/movement for my clan and combining areas from a bunch of maps to make it easier to practice on, and fixing clipping bugs so people don't get stuck to the floor in places like they do now. this isn't going to be released and it's being used as a practice map for practicing playing natural selection.

    O_o

For reference (of why this is a bad idea), I suggest you run a search of the mapping forum for "nz-nexus".

Edit: also, you're not going to be able to make a map out of decompile. Hence why the bast remake team couldn't just decompile it and re-release it. The decompiler messes it up severely, as a lot of data is lost when it is compiled from a .map to a .bsp.

Just play the map for crying out loud, if your clan is too lazy to just 'changelevel ns_tanith' yea... also check on Nz-Nexus, he has also tried to decompile for various reasons....

emailing the author of the map for permission to extract one room from the map and save it without modifying for use in a map which will not be redistributed outside of my clan (all of whom, i would like to think, would be able to recognize that i had taken the area from ns_tanith) is pretty moronic

i know, i'm only trying to get one room out of it. i don't need any entities, models, particle systems, or even perfect brush alignment, i just need 90% of the room so i can get the right proportions and size. i don't want to remake it by hand because then it's not going to be an exact copy of the original and if you work out "okay guys it only takes 2 people to boost up to here" on the practice map then in the real map it might take 3 making the practice map worthless

yes spending hours finding out how to decompile a map makes me lazy
you have definitely pigeonholed me correctly, good job

i think some people here have a real chip on their shoulder

Still, unless you do, you'd better not try to get help on these boards. It's a breach of copyright, plain and simple.
