For reference (of why this is a bad idea), I suggest you run a search of the mapping forum for "nz-nexus".
Edit: also, you're not going to be able to make a map out of decompile. Hence why the bast remake team couldn't just decompile it and re-release it. The decompiler messes it up severely, as a lot of data is lost when it is compiled from a .map to a .bsp.
emailing the author of the map for permission to extract one room from the map and save it without modifying for use in a map which will not be redistributed outside of my clan (all of whom, i would like to think, would be able to recognize that i had taken the area from ns_tanith) is pretty moronic

i know, i'm only trying to get one room out of it. i don't need any entities, models, particle systems, or even perfect brush alignment, i just need 90% of the room so i can get the right proportions and size. i don't want to remake it by hand because then it's not going to be an exact copy of the original and if you work out "okay guys it only takes 2 people to boost up to here" on the practice map then in the real map it might take 3 making the practice map worthless

yes spending hours finding out how to decompile a map makes me lazy
you have definitely pigeonholed me correctly, good job
i think some people here have a real chip on their shoulder

Still, unless you do, you'd better not try to get help on these boards. It's a breach of copyright, plain and simple.
