"software Mode Not Supported By Natural Selection"

i get "software mode not supported by natural selection" whenever i join, or create a server, when i join its pitch black. when i click ready room, its pitch black. ive done this multiple times, ok so what happens is i run forward, and end up becoming an alien. but its still pitch black.. i can press the number keys, change my guns, and shoot.

i downloaded:
3.0 beta 1
3.0 beta 4
3.0 beta 4a

and installed them in the right order

what did i do wrong?

from the main menu, go into options and then click on the tab thats says video.

you should see a bar that says software. click the arrow and it will bring up two more options, select opengl. this should solve your problem and if not you should update your drivers as well.

I really wish that error dialog box actually gave people some instructions on how to fix that error rather than just stating it doesn't work.. it worked, now i can play <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
