Is There A Way To Run Ns From Couter-strike?

i have boughtcounter-strike countion zero. It came with counter strike so is there anyway to run ns?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, since they use the same engine. Just install it to the cs/nsp/ folder.

But why would you need to? can't you just download half-life off steam?

Where, you have to play the game at least once to get the files for NS.

As people who own CS:CZ Seem to suck, the answer is:
NO IDEA!

The last 2 people I tried to help, well one was an idiot and the other never posted back.

ok, I will post the full install guide at the bottom, so that is what I am referancing when I give direcitons:

1) Try just using my install guide (to play HL simply double click on it, and if it lasks for a CDKey, put in your CS:CZ key)

If that fails try:
2) go to steam\steamApps\Your@email\ and see what is in there.
If you have a folder, then try moving your nsp dirs to that folder and see if it works.

3) Download these 3 files:
ns_install_v3_b1.exe
ns_v30_b4_patch.exe
ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe

4) Install NS V3.0 Beta 1 (ns_install_v3_b1.exe) (This should auto install to steam\steamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp, if it does not, move the NSP folder there).

5) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4 (ns_v30_b4_patch.exe) (point this at steam\steamApps\your@email\Half-Life\ do NOT include the NSP).

6) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4a (ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe) (See * at bottom).

7) Search your Hard drive(s) for folders named nsp.

8) If you have more than one you messed up.  Goto Step 3.


If you folow these steps properly you will not get client.dll or map.bsp errors.

If you are positive you have folowed them corectly then redownload the installer form a different location.

*There aslo seems to be a bug with, atleast some of, the 4a installers.  Try pointing it at steamApps\your@email\ instead of steamApps\your@email\half-life

<b> Slightly More Advanced Steps</b>

2) Deleate all folders named that.

3) Start from step 3 in my guide.

4) Make sure you are using the properly named files for each step, the file name is listed with the step.

5) Make sure you point each file at the place listed with the step
5a) The first one should auto install with no choice of destination
5b) The second one goes to: Steam\SteamApps\your@email\Half-Life
5c) The 3rd should probably go to Steam\SteamApps\your@email\

6) After each install step in my guide (steps 4, 5 and 6) search your hard drive for nsp
6a) If you find only one folder, and it is located at Steam\SteamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp then you are good to go.
6b) If you have only one nsp but it is some where else, move it to that location.
6c) If you have 2 nsp folders, then move the one that is not in that location, over writing all files when prompted.
6d) Each time you move an nsp folder search your hard drive again for nsp to double check.

if you have a HL cd-key or the cd-key of a HL mod, you will be able to download half-life and the other free mods if you have a valid cd-key.

Unless I'm reading that wrong, or it's incorrect it seems like the CZ key is pretty limited.

You cannot use a Counter Strike CD key for Half Life, I have tried it in the past (as i have CS retail AND HL, and me and my m8 wanted to play, so tried using the CS Key for him) and it does NOT work...

you have to have a valid Half Life key (not a mod key)

I used my CS retail key to install HL, NS, DOd, and TFC via steam......so dont say cs retail doesn't work for HL...i don't kno about CS:CZ tho

You can't use A CS:Retail key to install Vanilla HL, you can use it to install Steam HL.
