Plz Help.
In case you didn't read the title, I need help building my PC. Firstly, before anyone answeres any questions or solves any of my problems, is there an online in-depth guide for putting together a PC? Something current please. OK, now that that's out of the way, I shall continue.

Well I had a bit of a problem at first becasue when I ordered my parts I forgot the heatsink. Silly me! Anyhow, I just picked one up from CompUSA and I have all my parts gathered.

1. My RAM is being stubborn and won't go in, but I think that I am putting it in wrong.

2. My back panel where I would add mysound card and network stuff doesnt have screws and doesnt fit my OLD parts, am I just looking at it wrong or does it really not fit?

3. How to connect my CD, CD+RW and Hard Drive to the Motherboard and power. I can't tell the diff between a 40-pin ATA and the other serial/ata cables.

Thats all I can think of right now, if you could help me, I would be eternally gratefull.

The ram issue is probably just that you arn't wiggling enough/not pushing hard enough... ram can be funny that way (but don't break it, it is still delicate equipment)

As for your soundcard stuff, what kind of PC are you upgrading? Some prebuild PC's come with some really funny nonstandard stuff, so if you are using a dell case, HP case, Compac case or any other case that generally comes from a company that sells only prebuilts you might have to look at getting a new case.

[edit] oh for the last part, the cable that attaches to your A: drive should be small, and the cable that attaches to the CD drive and your hardrives is the same size, just make sure that you use the one with two port (if you have one with two ports, if you don't they are compleatly interchangeable) on the harddrive, because in the future, should you get a slave drive, you want your two drives plugged in on the same cable.

Well actually, I'm building a brand new PC. The soundcard was from an old dell.

sounds like you've been hit with the scourge of the prebuilt

only thing I can say is if the card isn't plugged in tight enough it will look like it isn't fitting no matter what card it is. For that matter, any hardware that isn't plugged in tight will be at risk of frying because of bad connection, so make sure to plug the stuff in tight (practice on the old dell if you're not sure)
