<div class="IPBDescription">I Think I Need A New Case :(</div> I've been having problems with my PC randomly restarting
itself. After trying various drivers for various components
i've run short of idea's and overheating seems to be the likely
cause.
So I popped into one of my local pc places on the way to
a friends and asked about prices for case-fans. £3 not bad.
I asked the guy where about I should fit this thing, he showed
me the back of a case with a little slot/fitting that pops out
and the case fans mounts in.
Now my case is rather old (the stuff inside is all fairly new) and
it takes some time before I can convince this guy that my case
doesn't have this slot for the fan to fit in.
The only alternative seems to be, buy a nice shiny new case.
Which I will probably do but before I do I want to be 100% that
over-heating is the cause. So can anyone tell me what a safe
temperature for a system is.
At the moment my temperatures are reading:
(Using MotherBoard Monitor for these stats)
Case - 91 Degrees Fahrenheit
CPU Diode - 152 Degrees Fahrenheit
CPU Socket - 116 Degrees Fahrenheit
Those numbers again in Celcius are:
Case - 33 Degrees Celcius
CPU Diode - 68 Degrees Celcius
CPU Socket - 47 Degrees Celcius
Are those temperatures normal/safe? Apparently this room
has been hotter that usual (according to vistors) but i'm used
to it so I never notice any difference. And this part of the
country has been quite humid (very warm during the days
and storms/heavy rain the evening.) so these factors may
account to the restarts.
My DxDiag.txt is attached should you want to browse
my system information.
I'm going to switch the machine off for now and wait until
dark and then attempt to play Doom 3. Hopefully it'll
be a cool evening and the system will be ok for an hour or two.
I'll check back on your replies and idea's before starting up Doom 3.

This seems very hot, but your other temperatures dont seem that bad. What kind of CPU heatink/fan do you have (and is it working)?
System temp is about 26C
BTW, what CPU are you running? Intel and AMD chips run with slightly different average temperatures...
CPU temp is 41.5
I have a Chieftech Dragon case
8 Fans including PSU and Heatsink
And my Hinksink is a Thermaltake Volcano 12 with ajustable RPM knob.
so if you want a cool system go for a big case and lots of fans, with a decent intake at the front and blows it out the back. i also find a fan on the case panel is very handy
Looks like I should defiantely pick up a new
case and as many fans as the shoudl will allow.
(Fabs are relatively cheap around here so there's no
harm in picking up several, safe than sorry etc.)
My CPU is an AMD XP 2800+, and as far as I know
its running fine... if alittle hot <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I'll go price up some cases tomorrow and post a couple
of pictures if its nice and shiny ;-)
Thanks for the numbers guys. Much appreciated
