Its The End Of The World....

Well, a world anyway
Yes, this is another shameless plug for planetside.
In the few months i've played this game it has come a long way. Starting a month or two before I began playing, a major overhaul of the whole game began, and the community is finally starting to see that the devs have not, in fact, been ignoring them for the past few months.
Now, with the introduction of three new "battle" islands, the devs have actually decided to add some (omg) plot!
Since friday evening earthquakes have been shaking the entirety of Auraxis. Also, there have been meteor showers of increasing duration and intensity on several continents. The coolest thing about this is that the devs actually went to the trouble of making a "Central command" character for each empire in order to warn us of impending meteor strikes, it doesn't sound like much, but it sure is a nice touch all the same.
According to the forums, these earthquakes and meteor strikes are going to increase in frequency until tomorrow evening, when they will come to a climax and something.... something big, will happen. Everyone pretty much knows that Oshur (one of the present continents) will be destroyed and the three battle islands will take its place.
Another theory, based on some leaked screenshots, is that auraxis is going to be completely destroyed by the constant meteors, and the continents are going to form their own planets... somehow... don't ask me how its going to work but that's definately what the screenshot seemed to suggest... the "Supreme Command" did say that the core of the planet was de-stabilising....
Now they could have just made the battle islands, added the patch, and then said "Uh, here's three more continents... now give us more money", but instead they went to the trouble of making background, adding the earthquake and meteor effects, and involving the community. Needless to say, everyone I know in game is going to try to be there when "the event" happens.
What i'm saying is, if you've always wanted to try planetside, now might be a good time. There is no free trial currenty, but IIRC you can buy the game online for $9.99 and get your first month free, which is still a pretty damn good deal.
Oh, and did I mention they're adding mechs in the next patch?

This is all because planetside is going to have a big "re-launch" in the next few months, so don't be suprised to see it in stores again soon. I'm sure many of you will be convinced by the mechs alone
This is my last plug for planetside. Honest. Unless they make something even cooler than mechs, which I sincerely doubt.

Some of the stuff they're adding kind of makes me rethink the game... The mechs are gonna make it kind of like Infantry Online, hopefully.

Well, that IS what planetside is based off of.
Infantry ruled when it was free....
(yes thats a question)
/me dons his Galaxy Flight suit
I would say that the "Core Destabalizing" thing is the excuse for adding these mechs. Like, the earthquakes shake open a new cavern (where they find the mechs) or something, or set off some equipment in the caverns that give the blueprints/details for the new mechs.
But yeah, i was online when that "central command" announcement came through (it was pretty cool to see it, and i know that sounds a bit stupid), and i waited on one of the conts to see the big meteor showers (it took down the capitol dome and turned a few bases neutral). I took some screenies too, but i could only host them on Photobucket (because i'm a cheap nub) and i think the URL is blocked on these forums.
I'm downloading it now, I haven't played since the beta.
Reavers are still used by happy cowboy kill****s since the Devs don't seem to see a reason for nerfing the Rocket Spam. I personally had never used a Reaver, and after listening to bitching on the forums about how 'it's hard to fly', I made an NC character (which means I have to face Striker AV weapons, and the Lancer, both of which are more potent against aircraft then the NC phoenix is, so I have a lot to go against). After a few minutes of learning how to fly, I headed into battle. Did I die a lot? Yeah, I did. But I literally REAPED kills in while I was alive. I made about 6 BRs in one night just rocketspamming individual people behind enemy lines. In fact, I'd make a habit of ramboing into random bases and killing people. I'd get nearly 1000 xp per kill since they were alive for so long. I killed a Prowler and got more XP then you ever will in a base cap. Which is another thing, the XP system is still freaking PANTS since the rewards are so screwed. Fight for a base, and you'll get maybe 2.5-3k xp on average. Kill a tank and I get 5k. An outfitmate shot down a GALAXY and got a BR instantly. Awesome job devs!
The forums are a joke though, but they're fun to troll and flame on: The devs have stated over and over that the Jackhammer is balanced, most NC don't use it, and many people agree it's, if anything, UNDERpowered since the other HA beefs mean the jackhammer can't get close enough to actually do damage, and yet the TR and VS players still **** that if you use the Jackhammer your a noob. Which is funny because I made my TR character, joined an outfit, and my first action was a Galaxy hotdrop - Every single person, except the MAX unit, carried a minichaingun
So, unless they changed balance, if you want to level fast, I suggest playing a TR on Markov with both Air Cavalry and the Heavy Assault certs. Pick up antivehicle and Rexo when you can, you'll be a near-unstoppable killing machine.
And i still say the TR have one of the most potent ground weapons with that bloody minichaingun.... god how i hate that. I hate it so much. i had a gauss rifle shooting over long distance at a TR, he turned around and killed me with the chaingun, at long range. I hate that thing.
Get a credit card then. Even minors can get those weird ones that you have to precharge with money.
Use it like what? Like spending money on stuff you want and can afford?
For $10, it's not such a bad idea either...
Edit: Just requisitioned myself a credit card and I'm buying away.
THERE WERE BIG METEORS AND THEN WIERD ALIENY VOICES AND NOW THE SERVERS ARE DOWN AND I CAN ONLY TYPE IN CAPS!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!
Jesus christ that was cool.
Basically the continents have somehow been transported across thousands of miles onto seperate planets.... which look natural... as though they had always been there. The warpgates still work, so travel between the continents is still possible, but the planet you end up on is clearly different.
While every continent is now on a seperate planet, including the caves, there are two exceptions.
Oshur is gone.
And.... (plotplotplot) a new planet has appeared. One which no-one has seen before. Despite this, it already has bases pre-built and waiting to be used on them. No, i'm not being mean, that really is what the movie says.
The theories are that the core of Auraxis was intellegent, and changed the environment to better suit our needs, but as the video itself said, they're just guessing.
The game now has a PLOT! A plot no less! As soon as the servers get back up i'm getting me some battle island action!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! PLANETSIDE!!!!!!!
If its $10 i might do it since that works out about £5 a mear hour and a halfs work (Yay for being paid just over minimum wage).
Still I enjoyed it before but i found it more enjoyable to play with people i knew, maby we should start up an NS(is it unit I can remember?)?
"Ok so and so is primary target.. dont listen to him" then a huge arguement starts up on global chat, while two other people, still on global chat, talk about KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN. I remember the day that happened. I looked at the Planetside CD case sitting on my shelf practally begging me to touch it in some sort of sexual way if I could, and thought to myself "hmm maybe its gotten better since I last left. Meh, why not." Phone up dad, ask him for credit card number, get it, go through a *MASSIVE* hassle with registering with the game (i had an old account.. I didnt know the password or screenname for it, and I just wanted to make a new one. In order to make a new one, you have to delete that one, and you have to know the old password or screenname, OR email adress, which I had no idea what it was, ended up being buscuitboy1227@hotmail.com... right..) and it ended up taking me a freaking hour just to play. Once I found everything out, I logged on, and tried to play. I immediatly got killed fifty million times in my aircraft (being the fact that aircraft are -not- fast enough, and SAMish units are overpowered.. but so are the reavers. Its time to take out the nerf bats, Sony, not the beef candy..) then tried to head out on foot. I also sucked there. Almost everyone online has top or extreamly high BR rank, so there is a near no chance of noobie survival. After listening to the global ranting, later muting it, then being killed fifty fricken million times, I unsubscribed the same exact day, no more than two hours later. I uninstalled the game and stuck it in my microwave.
Planetside, sucks, end of story.

You suck. End of story.
There seem to be a lot of people who disagree with you. If you don't like PS why bother posting?
What server are you on, Nil?

TR Werner.
When the end came I was with a group of TR survivors (we had just lost all our bases on the continent and were clinging on to the towers) from all over, most of my outfit members were miles away. Then a Vanu soldier came up to us. After spamming "Cease fire" a few thousand times it became clear that he didn't want to fight. A few of his friends showed up (and a few of mine) and so we sat on the hillside and watched the world end together.
Until some smacktard decided to orbital strike us.
I never really had to PAY for planetside:
Why:
I beta tested it for 3 months.
Then I got the Trial - then they extended it for two weeks
Then I got the christmas bonus.
