It's open to interprention and can yield different results.. The guy who made it meant a specific way to it.. so if some people have an easy time to figure it out I guess it's just luck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

yeah, it's old but cool. I figured it out as soon as I read someone say that 'more intelligent people take longer to figure it out' -- so I looked at it from a dumb POV, et voila =P
However, puzzles like this are a hobby of mine so if I did take longer to solve it then I should probably look for a new hobby.

[edit]: Never mind. It borked on me. Every answer I type in comes back as correct.
I am going to have to try it at home. While my employer values education and 'out of the box' thinking. I do not think he would look too kindly on me staring at a screen of dice.

Somebody PM me the answer please.. I hate these games. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Its very simple. A center dot on the die represents the 'rose'. A 1 would have no petals, however, because there are no dots on the on the outside of the center dot. A 2 would have 1 petal, a 3 would have 2 petals, four would have none, five would have four, and six has none.
*END SPOILER*</span> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Aww Otto, don't give it away. If you really have to post a solution do so in a link so that people can still read the thread without stumbling on the answer.
(really glad I solved it before reading)
Though for a minute there I was almost ready to ask for a hint <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
edit: Ahh, I now see that it was posted in purple and very hard to see normally. Unless of course you are colorblind like me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Figuring it out quickly dosen't make you smarter, it just means you think about things differently, Im assuming this has some childish first grader method of figuring it out, because using algebra has failed me so far.

However I am angry. I cannot show this to my friends at home. (lack of proper equipment)

*EDIT*
Oops 2 has no petals. I'm doing dice from memory

It's partly down to simply how you interpret language. To me, the "Petals around a rose" title gave it away.
