A Senior In A Theatre Class. I Need Advice.
Ok for starters I'm a high school senior and being a senior I took a few blow off classes. One of them happens to be a first level drama class (acting class) . Although jokeing made fun of by my friends, when I signed up for it I got all giggly inside, the thought acting makes me happy, for lack of a better word. Now here's the problem, 1)I lack any sort of acting experience, 2) I'm "that quite guy", 3) I'm very anti-social, 4) I fear rejection 5) coupled with the quite thing, I have a deep voice, but i don't project it or use it loudly. Auditions for shows are held in the next 3 days(Romeo and Juliet lol). Now with all of this in mind, how could a guy like me help improve his chances in getting a part. Thanks.

That was depressing.
My only tip is that you should remember to not be yourself so to speak but consentrate on the part.
True, I don't think there's much I could say. There isn't really a read-me on acting.
That was me a year ago. I'd sit there by myself while others would socialize in class. After a while, I loosened up a bit, and started really enjoying things.
And don't worry if you don't think you have talent. Not everyone is going to be a natural. You have to work at it. But you can't be afraid to try. Also, everyone can project their voice, you just need to work on it.
Although, I question the quality of your Drama department if their doing something as cliche' as Romeo and Juliet.
Anyway, it would help if you read the play. Try and familiarize yourself with middle-english and at least have a general knowledge of Elizabethan England. This is optional, but it helps.
Mostly, don't be nervous. People will be judging you, but thats kind of necessary considering its an audition. But, just get on stage and have fun. If you aren't having at least a little bit of fun, then something is wrong.
My English teacher from last year told me that it was her "quiet" students who got the most out of the class. I guess I can see that because it sorta forces you to ditch the quiet thing and just go for it. Try out for Romeo or something and see how it works for you.

So how's that working out for you?
edit: I'm a senior in high school too. Last year!!! HUZZAH!!
At my school they're not quiet at all. Especially when spreading rumors. Gossip is one of the most popular pass-times.
Good god, I graduated two years ago, and I am glad its over. Do something you enjoy!
Some people say that high school constitutes the best years of your life, but Ive got to say, that the only period that was worse, was middle school. Good god, the thought that I was actually one of the hyper-active pubescent minipeople I so despise...
Don't worry about anything, and have fun. Wish I wasn't so image concious or I would have been in the acting class too.
in a year, you won't ever see any of those kids ever again. so go all out.
also, if you are shy (as in people will think you are wierd for acting out a lot) ... if you put enough effort into your acting, people will respect you, not mock you.
It's a depressing thing isn't it? And now summer is practically over too. Bah...
By the way, I pulled that whole Senior in Acting class thing too. I found it was quite fun, and while I started out being quiet; because I considered it to be embarrassing in a class full of freshman. Boy were some of these guys noobs (noobs at life lol, they ask questions that make you wonder if you were ever that clueless), but it made the class interesting. (Not to say there weren't some pretty smart ones too however, but that is a different story.)
Anyway, once you get used to it, even if you're quiet, you find that it is really a lot of fun. Just go for it. And good luck on wednesday.
This man speaks wisely.
Go for the wise-ass.

School hasn't started yet.
I'm not really that quiet, either, soo...
I found high school to be very irritating. I really didn't like it. It was probably due to all the bullies and lack of socializing. But I made that all up in college. I find college to be a much more rewarding and enjoyable experience, its just not enjoyable for your pocketbook.

p.s. Sorry about spelling.
And, yeah, its good to be in Drama if your a guy. Theres always a shortage of men, so you can get a part easily.
In related news, today was the second day of auditions at our school for the play "David and Lisa", and I think I have a pretty good chance of getting David. My reasons for this assumption are that the real me closely resembles the character, everyone is telling me that they want me to play David, and I've been asked by almost everyone who was auditioning to do David in their reading. But the only person's opinion who matters is the director, and call-backs are going to be either tomorrow or Friday, so I'll just be crossing my fingers until then.
Good stratigy...!

Well of course they aren't quiet, and are always spreading gossip, your probably either going into 8th/9th grade (I'm going into 9th, and I know rumors are an essential part of life). Of course, we dont have any drama people yet, we have too many required classes, so no one has teh time to take drama. Maybe when I'm older, I'll take drama, since people say I'm the most social/least shy person they know...

Actually, I'm in 10th now.
Although everyone always thinks I'm a junior or something, which is odd because I'm younger than almost everyone (fourteen).
