How Do You Record Sounds From .avi?

And block out background music
I've got some avis of *UNLICENCED* anime. Yes, they're in a sort of grey area, but I'm not linking to them or even saying what they are. I'm just after some technical advice. There's some phrases from various characters in the show that I'd like to get a .wav file of. Plus, there's background music that I'd like to remove if possible so I just had the speech. Anyone have any suggestions?

Goldwave is a good program for editing WAV files. I'm pretty sure Valve uses it.
.. probably sound forge, not likely to be a $30 program. It's pretty limited.
Set your recording device as "What you hear" or "Final Mix" or whatever your computer calls recording the output. Record the section that you want.
Removing Background Music Method A:
If you have the soundtrack that is JUST the music, get a chunk that is the exact same section of music that you want to remove. Now use the invert command on it (it flips the positive and negative amplitudes). Finally, mix paste that section over the section with music and sound. If you did it properly, the inverted music with completely cancel the background music and leave only the voice. If you don't have the soundtrack (but the music is repetitive enough) you may be able to cut a sample from the part you've recorded that can be inverted.
Removing Background Music Method B:
Look up the human vocal range... I can't remember it off the top of my head. Now to a frequency filter band pass that only alows those ranges through. If the music is mostly in frequencies outside of that range then it can lower the background music level significantly.
Removing Background Music Method C:
Get Cool Edit 2000 (Adobe Audition) or some other cool program, and use the "Reduce Background Noise" function. First select a chunk of the sound that ONLY has music in it... get as much as you can. Then select reduce background noise and click, "get profile from selection". Then click "Close". Then select the whole thing. Go back into reduce background noise and filter the whole thing as much as you can. It tries to recognise frequency patterns and then remove them, so if the background music is a lot different than the voice it can work out.
Hope that helps.
after you have loaded in the avi, goto audio-streamlist, and u can select the audiotrack u wanna save, or even add tracks if u want to.
