<div class="IPBDescription">how bittorrent works in laymen terms???</div>

I'm not that new to this, but I've always wondered how the downloading and uploading segments up this program factored into play, and how exactly seeding is sorted out.

I can't seem to find this stuff on google. Yes, my google skills are inferior.

KTHXVERYMUCH.

I think this is how it works, Not sure though. Basically one person starts downloading the file, then as that person is downloading, other start downloading the pieces he already has from him. Etc. That why as you download more of it your download rate increases, because then more people have said piece you need. Im just guessing though.

    basicaly, yah

I (The person sharing the file first) am the first Seeder (aka, person with the entire file, and sharing)

Every one else is a leecher, for now.

I will give different poeple, different chunks of data (in one mode the first seeder gives out each piece of data in order, but to different people).

Now, as soon as some one gets a chunk of data, they can give it to every one else.

So instead of needing the entire file to share, you just need 1 little piece and you are in buisness.

There are a few other things (each piece is checked when downloaded, so you can't download a corupt file, etc)

    to put it simply:

when you start a file, you connect to a few other people who have the same file either partially downloaded or completly downloaded, as you begin downloading, more people join the larg group of people wanting the file. as you download it to your system, people who have less of the file than you do download bits and peices from you and everyone else.

Basically, think of it a pyramid scheme, but a whole lot nicer

and the last guy dosn't get the shaft, instead they just can't give the file to any one else.

This is assuming people folow the netiquite of keeping your shares open once you finished (you should always have ATLEAST a 1:1 ratio, it is best to keep it up for more)
