If they aren't after this season they should. The team is nothing without Jack. The damn show revolved around SG-1 and was built on the chemistry the team had together. Jack was essential to the team, now he's gone. Now the chemistry is an oxidation reaction except it's putting out carbon monoxide because there isn't enough oxygen (Jack) for carbon dioxide.

I was wondering why, after most of the supporting cast left (or were removed), and the show's producer and main character didn't want to put a full-time effort into the show, that the show was still airing.

Yeh season 8 is gonna be the last, it's just there really to tie up lose ends ie the Goul'd situation and give Stargate: Atlantis a helping hand with the odd tie in episode etc.
